Abstract: High molecular weight polymers are produced by the anionic dispersion polymerization of styrene monomers, particularly Alpha -methylstyrene. The polymerization is carried out at a temperature below the ceiling temperature of the resulting polymer and in the presence of a diluent and a dispersing agent such as poly(vinyl alkyl ether). The diluents employed are those in which the monomer is soluble but in which the polymer is essentially insoluble.
