Abstract: 1,234,603. Filters. UNION TANK CAR CO. 7 June, 1968 [8 June, 1967], No. 27246/ 68. Addition to 1,066,546. Heading B1D. In a filter comprising a filter tank 12 with a division 26 and at least one filter element 30 held on a seat member 40 supported by and passing through the division member 26, the join between the element and the seating is sealed. In one arrangement, Fig. 2, a resilient gasket 90 is interposed between the end of the element 30 and the top of the seating 40 and a shield 44 is secured to the seating and surrounds the gasket. The element is pressed onto the gasket by a spring 60 acting through a nut 54 adjustable on a rod 53 carrying an extension 80 with a rivet 88 which engages beneath the end of the seating 40. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the gasket is replaced by an O-ring which is located in a groove of a sleeve embedded in the end of the element and bears on the inner surface of the seating.
