Openings are provided in an exterior wall of the body through which a plurality of valve elements are received. The body has opposing exterior side walls through which a seam diagonally extends, thereby separating the body into two parts sealed together at that seam. The diagonal seam divides internal fluid chambers between each part and facilitates molding the parts so that the entire body can be fabricated by only two parts.

The body includes a first valve seat between the inlet and the outlet, a second valve seat between the treated water inlet and the outlet, and a third valve seat in a flow path between the inlet and the outlet. A set of first, second and third flapper valve elements selectively engage and disengage the first, second and third valve seats respectively. The three flapper valve elements are preferably connected to a common manually operable actuator which can be latched to hold the valve elements in different functional positions.

A multiport valve for a water transfer system passes water, drawn by a pump, through a plurality of collectors. A programmable controller controls operation of the pump and a stepper motor which positions the multiport valve in a time series sequence according to user instructions. The multiport valve is formed with a first valve head having an intake port and multiple separate outlet ports. The respective outlet ports are connected to the respective collectors at respective collector inlets. A first rotor bears against the first valve head and forms a seal between the first rotor and first valve head. The first rotor is formed with a first coupling channel for coupling the intake port of the first valve head to different outlet ports according to the rotational position of the first rotor. The multiport valve incorporates a second valve head formed with an exhaust port and a plurality of separate inlet ports coupled to the respective plurality of collectors at respective collector outlets. A second rotor bears against the second valve head substantially forming a seal between the second rotor and second valve head. The second rotor is formed with a second coupling channel for coupling the exhaust port to different inlet ports according to the rotational position of the second rotor for exhausting water.

A water softener control valve has a number of cam operated valves each of which includes a ball located at a port. A lever is associated with each ball and lever movement by the cams unseats the balls to open the ports. The ports are located in a common, generally horizontal wall and internal generally vertical walls associated with the ports define channeling through which water is directed in achieving the service, backwash, brine slow rinse, and fast rinse cycles of the water softener, and in addition the brine tank water refill after the mineral bed of the water softener has been regenerated. Water pressure urges the balls toward their respective ports and holds the balls seated in the ports. One port is exposed, during the regeneration portion of the water softener program, to both return flow from the mineral tank on one side of the port and service flow to the service outlet on the other side. That port has a ball on both sides of the port to insure closure of the port and isolation of the flow on both sides of the port.

Simplified apparatus is provided for injecting controlled amounts of a chemical housed within a container into a liquid, such as water, flowing through a pipe. A ''''T'''' fitting is coupled into the pipe through which the liquid is flowing by means of a second T fitting or in any other convenient manner. A length of tubing coupling the output from a container holding the chemical to be injected extends coaxially through the T and into the pipe through which the liquid is flowing, terminating just short of the opposite side thereof. A second length of tubing is coupled between the right angle extension from the T to the inlet of the container. The area at the outlet of the tubing extending through the T is smaller than the area surrounding the tubing through which the liquid in the pipe may pass to communicate with the second piece of tubing which leads to the container inlet. Thus, in effect, a suction is observed at the outlet terminal which draws liquid flowing through the pipe into the container, where it mixes with the chemical therein, and back into the pipe conveying the liquid. Flow rate through the container, and hence the concentration of chemical injected into the liquid flowing through the pipe, is controlled by a conventional valve on the inlet side to the container. Additionally, a second conventional valve may be added to the inlet side to the container and a third conventional valve to the outlet side of the container to permit complete isolation of the container to facilitate replenishing the chemical contained therein. If necessary to conform to building codes, a check valve may be inserted into the line on the inlet side of the container.
