    Abstract: A by-pass mechanism including a door formed as a segment of a cylinder and mounted for swinging motion to alternate fluid flow control positions. A power element responsive to a changing condition of the controlled fluid is arranged for direct actuation of the door, with mechanical advantage. The door, and a mounting frame therefor, are constructed to impose minimal resistance to movement of the door in its travel to and from the alternate positions.

    Abstract: A true counterflow heat exchanger of the tube and fin type having a cartridge design in accordance with which the heat exchanger unit may be removably installed in a housing cavity while retaining its counterflow principle of operation. A manifold member at an inner end of the unit is formed for free flow of a first fluid therethrough and for confined flow of a second fluid to receive such second fluid and return it to the opposite or outer end of the unit.

    Abstract: A refrigerated air or like dryer in which apparatus to perform the several functions of such a dryer are combined in a unit of small, compact size. A heat exchange device is uniquely constructed to perform both the principal cooling and the precool-reheat functions. A housing in an enclosing relation to the heat exchange device induces separation and drainage of liquid from the cooled gas, eliminating the need for external separator means and attendant connections.

    Abstract: A surface cooler for interposing in ram air or the like. Aerodynamic devices at the leading end of the cooler capture high energy air from the free air stream outwardly of the cooler mounting surface and divert the more stagnant air at the mounting surface away from the cooler inlet, the function being to reject heat to this captured air from a fluid used as a coolant in a location remote from the cooler. At the trailing end of the cooler other aerodynamic devices utilize the air flowing over the cooler to facilitate venting of a system fluid.
