    Abstract: Secondary-alkyl sulfates are prepared by sulfating a C9-C18 sulfatable compound such as a monohalogenated paraffin, monohydroxylalcohol or mono-olefin, in admixture with a C9-C18 linear paraffin and neutralizing the acid alkyl-sulfate in admixture with the same paraffin to form a relatively colorless neutralized sec-alkylsulfate. This process is particularly adaptable where a C9-C18 n-paraffin stream is partially converted to a sulfatable compound and the unreacted n-paraffin is not readily separable from the resultant sulfatable compound. Thus, the sulfation and neutralization are performed in admixture with the unreacted n-paraffin whereby the paraffin is readily separated from the neutralization product and recycled.

    Abstract: Alkylaromatic sulfonates, containing a C9-C18 linear alkyl group, are prepared by sulfonating the corresponding alkylbenzene in admixture with a C9-C18 n-paraffin and neutralizing the resultant alkylbenzene sulfonic acid, in admixture with the same paraffin, to produce a relatively colorless neutralized alkylbenzene sulfonate. This process is particularly adaptable where a C9-C18 n-paraffin stream is first converted to an alkylatable compound such as a monohalogen and such compound is not readily separable from the n-paraffin. Thus, the alkylation, sulfonation and neutralization are all performed in admixture with the unreacted n-paraffin whereby the paraffin is readily separable from the final product, for recycle purposes.

    Abstract: Polymerization catalyst systems which are prepared by admixing an oxide of a metal of Group IIa, IIB, IIIA, or IVA with a halide of a metal selected from Group IVB, VB or VIB to chemically fix the metal halide thereon and thereafter adding an organo Group IA, IIA or IIIA metal or derivative thereof and a Lewis Base modifier to the admixture are improved by treating the oxide or the mixture of said oxide and said metal halide with a halogenating agent so that the atomic ratio of halide to Group IVB, VB or VIB metal is greater than 10:1 and preferably greater than 20:1.
