    摘要: A frequency modulated, continuous wave radar range measurement system using a laser oscillator is disclosed. A ring laser, carbon dioxide (CO2), laser oscillator allows target range and velocity measurement as either an active or a passive system. Nonlinear variation of laser output power is obtained by mixing the reflected signal with the energy within the laser cavity. In an active system the resulting beat frequency is sensed by a local receiver-detector and reduced to obtain the range and velocity data at the transmission site. The beat frequency is also superimposed on the transmitted laser beam and is therefore available at the target causing the beat frequency and is available to other detectors which may be positioned to receive a portion of the reflected energy, affording a passive system.

    摘要: An improved laser system is provided which increases laser efficiency, reduces power consumption and affords simplified construction. The improved laser, which can include any one of several electric pulsed systems, is capable of operating over an extended energy and duty cycle range. In operation only the electrical energy that contributes to the lasing action is drained from the energy source, thus greatly increasing the efficiency of the overall system. A mechanically biasable field effect electron emitter functions as either an active part of the laser or as an adjustable current controlling device, for controlling the period of lasing action.

    摘要: A spectrometer is provided for directly obtaining the autoionization energy levels within a gas laser and for observing decay probabilities to lower stable energy levels. A laser cavity is periodically interrupted by a rotating chopper wheel. Simultaneously, a probe within the laser plasma is continuously scanned across a ramp potential for attracting or repelling electrons in the plasma ground state. The laser energy in the autoionization state which varies with the chopper wheel rate is sensed by the probe circuit, isolated, amplified, and ultimately recorded as a scalar function of the modulation voltage input. Thus, the population density of the autoionization energy levels for various laser energy levels is obtainable across the frequency range of the chopper wheel.
