Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosed subject matter provide a device that may include an emissive surface having a plurality of pixels. Each pixel of the plurality of pixels may have three or more sub-pixels. At least one sub-pixel of the three or more sub-pixels may be disposed over at least one other sub-pixel of the three or more sub-pixels. Each pixel of the plurality of pixels may be configured to render a color gamut of at least 85% of a color space.

Abstract: Devices, arrangements, and techniques are provided to improve the color saturation of displays such as OLED displays while avoiding or substantially reducing any increase in power consumption that typically would be associated with such increase in saturation. A three-subpixel per pixel red/green/blue (RGB) architecture is provided as well as a four sub-pixel approach which uses two red sub-pixels for each pixel (red/red/green/blue, or R1R2GB).
