摘要: An apparatus and method for helically installing a vortex-induced vibration (VIV) suppression fin about a tubular. The apparatus may include an outer ring member dimensioned to encircle an underlying tubular and an inner ring member positioned concentrically inward from the outer ring member. The inner ring member is configured to rotate with respect to at least one of the outer ring member or the tubular as the outer ring member moves along the tubular. The apparatus may further include a fin guide configured to receive a fin and helically position the fin along the tubular as the inner ring member rotates. A method of installing a vortex-induced vibration (VIV) suppression fin about a tubular may include removably attaching a VIV suppression fin to an installation member. The installation member may be positioned along a tubular and moved about the tubular to helically position the fin around the tubular.

Methods for securing a U-shaped fairing to a tubular and manufacturing a U-shaped fairing are also disclosed.

摘要: A vortex-induced vibration (VIV) suppression system configured to accommodate a change in an underlying tubular diameter. The system including an encircling member dimensioned to at least partially encircle an underlying tubular. The encircling member may be, for example, a collar or a VIV suppression device such as a strake, or any other type of VIV suppression device. The system further including a band member dimensioned to encircle the encircling member and hold the encircling member around the underlying tubular at a desired axial position. A spring member may further be provided. The spring member may be positioned between the encircling member and the band member and dimensioned to contract in response to an increase in a diameter of the underlying tubular and expand in response to a decrease in a diameter of the underlying tubular such that the encircling member remains at the desired axial position.

摘要: Concepts for segmented helical strakes are presented herein. In one embodiment, the segmented helical strake includes a fin segment. The fin segment includes a fin body having an interior surface defining a substantially hollow interior area. The fin segment further includes a receiving member formed along the interior surface, wherein the receiving member is dimensioned to secure the fin body to a fin core positioned around a tubular. A segmented strake according to one embodiment may include a fin segment having an interior surface defining a substantially hollow interior area and a receiving member formed within the interior area. The segmented strake may further include a fin core positioned within the receiving member.
