Abstract: A method of managing desired states of software-defined data centers (SDDCs), includes the steps of: in response to a user selection of a first modular template that includes a first set of desired configurations and a user selection of a second modular template that includes a second set of desired configurations, creating a composite template that includes desired configurations from the first and second modular templates; and in response to a user selection to assign the composite template to an SDDC, creating a desired state document that includes desired configurations from the composite template and then transmitting an instruction to update actual configurations of the SDDC to match corresponding desired configurations from the desired state document.

Abstract: A method of managing configurations of a plurality of system services, including a first system service and a second system service, in each of a plurality of hosts, wherein each of the hosts is configured with a virtualization software for supporting execution of virtual machines therein includes steps of: upon receiving an application programming interface (API) call to apply configurations of the system services defined in a desired configuration file to the system services, parsing the desired configuration file to identify a first configuration for the first system service and a second configuration for the second system service, and storing the first and second configurations in accordance with a configuration schema defined for the first and second system services, wherein the first system service executes with the stored first configuration applied thereto and the second system service executes with the stored second configuration applied thereto.

Abstract: System and method for restoring management components of software-defined data centers (SDDCs) in computing environments uses a software-defined data center (SDDC) bootstrap service running in a virtualization software of a host computer in a computing environment to deploy a new management component in an SDDC after powering down a management component of the SDDC. After the new management component has been deployed, the new management component is restored to a backup state of the management component and configured to replace the management component by an SDDC configuration service running in the SDDC.
