Abstract: A cable identification system is provided. The cable identification system may include a laser pulse generator configured to emit laser pulses into the first optical-fiber cable segment. The cable identification system may include a polarization disturbance device configured to induce a change in polarization of a second optical-fiber cable segment via changing a position of the second optical-fiber cable segment. The cable identification system may include a polarization detection device configured to determine measures of polarization based upon backscattered light received from the first optical-fiber cable segment when the second optical-fiber cable segment has different positions. The polarization detection device may be configured to determine whether the first optical-fiber cable segment is connected to the second optical-fiber cable segment based upon the measures of polarization.

Abstract: A device may comprise a first portion and a second portion. The first portion may comprise a plurality of slots configured to receive a plurality of fiber optic cables. Each fiber optic cable may be received in a respective slot of the plurality of slots. The second portion may comprise a plurality of protruding members configured to bend the plurality of fiber optic cables, received in the first portion, to cause the plurality of fiber optic cables to emit light. The second portion may further comprise the light detection unit. The light detection unit may be configured to determine whether light emitted by a fiber optic cable is detected; and provide an indication regarding a port of the plurality of ports based on determining that the light, emitted by the fiber optic cable, is detected. The fiber optic cable may be connected to the port.

Abstract: An actuator device can include a plate, an actuator, a connector, and a power unit. The plate can retain a section of an optical fiber at the transmitter end of an optical communication link. The section of the optical fiber can be wrapped in at least a partial loop and held or retained by the plate. The connector can be a mechanical connector that couples the plate to the actuator and enables the plate to move about at least one axis to cause a change in a polarization state of the optical signal carried by the optical fiber. The change in the polarization state is identifiable by a polarized photodetector near a receiver end of the optical communication link. The power unit can provide power to at least the actuator.

Abstract: A device may receive, from a sensor device, cable distance data identifying cable distances along the fiber cable to vibrations experienced by the fiber cable from a vibration device. The device may receive location data identifying geographic coordinates associated with the vibrations, and may correlate the cable distance data and the location data to generate correlated data. The device may receive, from the sensor device, data identifying a cable distance along the fiber cable to an alarm condition associated with the fiber cable, and may determine geographic coordinates associated with the alarm condition based on the correlated data and the data identifying the cable distance along the fiber cable to the alarm condition. The device may perform actions based on the geographic coordinates associated with the alarm condition.
