摘要:
The shock absorber apparatus for a disc drive is a molded polymeric enclosure adapted to receive and retain a disc drive. One preferred embodiment of the present invention has a shock absorbing material of a first thickness adjacent a critical region of the drive and a second thickness of shock absorbing material adjacent a non-critical region of the disc drive. The first thickness is greater than the second thickness in order to absorb a greater shock load to protect the critical region of the disc drive.

The present invention is a method of determining mass unbalance of an actuator mechanism in a system. The method includes calculating a center of gravity in first x and y components with respect to a first coordinate system of the actuator mechanism. The method also includes calculating the center of gravity in second x and y components with respect to a second coordinate system of the actuator mechanism. The total mass unbalance of the actuator mechanism is then calculated.

A disc drive utilizes ramp load unload technology. A ramp component of the disc drive includes a recess that reduces the contact surface area of the ramp component that supports an actuator assembly to unload a slider of the disc drive. The actuator assembly may include a lift tab that interacts with the ramp component to hold the slider off a media disc when the slider is unloaded.

An apparatus and method of indirectly measuring half frequency whirl in a spindle motor having a rotor adapted to rotate a disc having a track which is followed by a transducer head that is actuated by a control system is provided. Vibration signals produced at the transducer head while the transducer head follows the track are detected. The half frequency whirl is determined as a function of the detected vibration signals.
