    Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a tape head and a tape head drive including a tape head. The tape head comprises at least one same gap verify (SGV) module comprising a closure, a substrate, and a plurality of write transducer and read transducer pairs disposed between the substrate and the closure. The write transducer and the read transducer of each pair are aligned in a first direction and spaced a distance in the downtrack direction of about 5 μm to about 20 μm. A first overcoat is disposed over each write transducer at a media facing surface (MFS), and a second overcoat is disposed over each read transducer at the MFS. The first and second overcoats may comprise different materials, and are deposited during different processes.

The tape head comprises at least one same gap verify (SGV) module comprising a plurality of write transducer and read transducer pairs disposed on a substrate. Each pair comprises a null shield disposed between the write transducer and the read transducer. One or more of a position between the write transducer and the read transducer of each pair, a width, a height, a thickness, and a permeability of the null shield is adjusted to create a null region, and the read transducer is disposed in the null region. The write head comprising a trailing shield, a main pole, and a leading shield, and the read head comprises a first shield, a second shield, and a magnetic sensor disposed between the first and second shields. In some embodiments, a shield is disposed between the leading shield and the first shield. A central axis of the write head is aligned with a central axis of the read head.     Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to tape heads for use in a tape drive system. The tape head includes a plurality of servo elements and a plurality of data elements disposed between the servo elements. An electrostrictive material is present in the tape head. Electrodes are coupled to the electrostrictive material to permit a voltage to be distributed across the electrostrictive material. The voltage causes the electrostrictive material to expand, and thus expand the tape head. By expanding the tape head by adding voltage, or contracting the tape head by lowering voltage, the spacing between adjacent data elements can be adjusted to match the spacing between adjacent data tracks on a tape.

    Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to a tape head and a tape drive including a tape head. The tape head comprises a plurality of data heads disposed at a media facing surface (MFS) and one or more servo heads disposed at the MFS. The plurality of data heads each individually have a first stripe height extending from the MFS to a back edge of a module. The one or more servo heads each individually have a second stripe height extending from the MFS towards the back edge of the module. The second stripe height is about 10% to about 75% less than the first stripe height. By making the second stripe height less than the first stripe height, the area of the servo heads is reduced while the resistance of the sensors of the servo heads is increased.
