A first automatic valve of a safeguard is connected in the flow path of a sanitary fitting. The diaphragm, acting as the valve body of a second valve, interacts with the valve seat and the first valve is arranged on said diaphragm. Under normal operating conditions, the second valve is closed and the first valve is opened. Under conditions allowing backflow counter to the direction of the arrow S, the first valve closes automatically, by which action the diaphragm is deformed counter to the direction of the arrow S due to the suction on the input side, which results in the second valve being inevitably opened. By this construction, water is prevented from flowing back into the feedline and the outlet is connected to the ambient air through the opened second valve and the aeration path.

A sanitary fitting includes a fitting housing which has a fixed housing part which is overlapped by a jacket element which can be swivelled about an axis. Projecting toward the front from the jacket element is a nozzle in which a guide bush is inserted. Together with the inner wall of the nozzle, the guide bush bounds a jacket space which is connected to the surroundings by a passage. Furthermore, the jacket space is communicated by an aeration passage to an annular channel which is communicated by an aeration line to an aeration aperture of a safeguard mechanism. Water fed through a feed line is mixed in a control cartridge and flows through the safeguard mechanism, connected downstream from the control cartridge, and through a pipe into a hose to a shower. In the case of conditions permitting backflow of water into the feed line, the safeguard mechanism prevents backflow and aerates the pipe and the hose while exposing an aeration aperture. Any water thereby escaping through the aeration aperture is conducted through an aeration channel into a deeper part of a sink.

The sealing arrangement comprises a seal having end sealing surfaces. The one end sealing surface bears against an annular sealing surface of a valve seat screwed into a lower part of a water faucet. The other end sealing surface presses upon a non-rotatable disk which bears against a rotary disk. The seal comprises radially outwardly projecting supporting ribs in the region of the end sealing surfaces. These supporting ribs are supported at a supporting ring of a housing of a ceramic upper part or portion. A slit spring washer bears against the seal at the inner or internal side thereof. With this sealing arrangement it is rendered possible that the seal has to be fitted into the water faucet with only a small bias or loading, because the seal efficiently utilizes the water pressure and converts or transforms such water pressure into a force which presses the end sealing surfaces with greaater compression or pressure against the annular sealing surface and the non-rotatable disk, respectively.

The valve body is fastened with a fastening end thereof to the housing, and a flow channel thereof is flow-connected to an inlet orifice. The valve body bears, with a middle portion of the valve body spanning a ventilation orifice, on a ventilation-valve seat formed on the housing. There adjoins the middle portion a bead which the end portion, bearing under prestressing on the valve-seat element, adjoins on the other hand. With water flowing in the direction of flow and also with an equal pressure prevailing on the inlet side and outlet side, the valve body bearing on the ventilation-valve seat prevents the outflow of water through the ventilation orifice. With a negative pressure prevailing on the feed side, the middle portion lifts off from the ventilation-valve seat, in order to ventilate the outlet orifice.

This results in a pressure balancing occurring between the pilot control space (40) and the other side of the closure part (38). The quantity of water flowing through a valve (18, 20) is thus determined by the limiting position of the closure element (58). The fitting thus no longer requires a mixing valve, the temperature of the mixed water flowing out through the water outlet head (28) is determined by the quantity of cold and hot water released by the valves (18, 20).
