摘要: A hybrid rock bit is disclosed wherein a pair of opposing extended nozzle drag bit legs are positioned adjacent a pair of opposed tungsten carbide roller cones. The extended nozzle face nearest the hole bottom has a multiplicity of diamond inserts mounted therein. The diamond inserts are strategically positioned to remove the ridges between the kerf rows in the hole bottom formed by the inserts in the roller cones.

摘要: This concept discloses a new technique which uses brazing or diffusion bonding methods to attach a diamond disk to a wedge-shaped steel support platform on a hybrid type of bit. The invention is primarily concerned with the attachment of the innermost diamond cutting disk on the wedge-shaped drag bit face portion of the hybrid bit. It is particularly difficult to secure any kind of cutting structure to the innermost portion of a rock bit because of the lack of material available to secure the cutting structure to the drag bit face. Space limitations on the drag bit face prevent the use of conventional interference fit diamond insert studs for the innermost cutters.

摘要: A Zublin type rotary drill bit is disclosed having a main body rotating about a main axis. The bit body includes a journl pin extending downwardly therefrom, with the journal pin forming a second axis disposed at an angle with respect to the main axis. The journal pin has a cutter rotatively mounted thereon, with the cutter having a spherical outer surface which has a plurality of inner rows of tungsten carbide mounted thereon. The gage row of the cutter is also formed on the spherical outer surface and defines a plane intersecting the intersection of the main and second axes. The cutter gage row is formed by a plurality of inserts having synthetic diamond cutting surfaces, which are facing downwardly toward the apex of the cutter, in order to scrape the sides of the bore hole during the downwardly traveling portion of the gage insert travel cycle. The cutter also has a heel portion which is located adjacent the backside of the gage inserts for protecting the inserts during the upwardly traveling portion of the gage insert travel cycle.

摘要: This invention teaches the use of cavitation inducing nozzles in combination with rock bits. The cavitation nozzles enhance the drilling rate by creating catastrophic implosion waves which erode solid material at the bottom of the hole while reducing the localized pressure at the rock tooth interface. Localized pressure reduction reduces the tendency for the cuttings to adhere to the bottom of the hole due to differential pressure.

摘要: A diamond studded insert drag bit is disclosed having a multiplicity of individual diamond insert cutter blanks inserted in the face of the bit. The diamond insert blanks are so positioned to maximize penetration of the bit in a borehole. The bit further includes one or more wear pads adjacent the multiplicity of diamond insert cutter blanks, the wear pads serving to channel the flow of drilling mud emanating from fluid passages formed in the face of the bit. The wear pads seal off a portion of the borehole bottom thereby directing hydraulic fluid across the face and over each of the strategically positioned diamond cutter blanks.

摘要: A drill bit having three cone-shaped cutters is formed with two drilling fluid nozzles on opposite sides of one of the cutters and with an enlarged return passage for the drilling fluid being formed between the other two cutters. Flow restrictors adjacent the two nozzles restrict the flow of return fluid in those areas. A flow diverter in the dome area of the bit extends into the space between the cutters to better direct fluid across the bottom of the hole where cuttings are being generated by the cutter teeth.
