Abstract: A tire, which can be solid or pneumatic, which has an elastomeric tread portion, an inextensible annular reinforcing structure beneath the tread and a hoop of rubber inwardly of the reinforcing structure. The hoop of rubber is held in a state of compression in the unloaded and, if the tire is pneumatic, uninflated state of the tire by the annular reinforcing structure.
