The phosphor includes an α-type Si3N4 crystal structure and includes oxynitride represented by an empirical formula CaxEuyMzSi12-(m+n)Aln+mOnN16-n, wherein M is at least one selected from a group consisting of Sr, Lu, La and Ba, and satisfies 0.5≦x≦1.1, 0.00005≦y≦0.09, 1.0≦m≦3.6, 0.001≦n≦0.2, and 0.00001≦z≦0.1.
