Abstract: In one aspect, there is provided a method performed by one or more data processing apparatus for mitigating wildfire ignition, the method including: obtaining first data identifying utility lines in a geographical region, obtaining second data characterizing operational and environmental factors related to the utility lines in the geographical region, determining a probability score that characterizes the likelihood of wildfire ignition caused by the utility lines in the geographical region, generating, based on the probability score, a cost function associating a wildfire-based cost to the current carried by the utility lines, and generating, using the cost function and a mixed-integer program solver, an output for the utility lines in the geographical region, where the output specifies an adjusted value of the current carried by the utility lines.

Abstract: A method for electrical grid monitoring using aggregated smart meter data includes receiving, from an electric grid monitoring device, electrical data aggregated from a plurality of electric meters each connected to a secondary side of at least one electrical transformer within a local geographic region. Each electric meter is configured to generate measurement data based on measurements taken at a respective electrical load. The electrical data indicates one or more characteristics of a secondary electrical distribution system connected to the at least one electrical transformer. The method includes determining, based on the electrical data aggregated from the plurality of electric meters, one or more characteristics of the primary electrical distribution system connected to the electrical transformer.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for selecting, from a set of actions, actions to be performed by an agent interacting with an environment to cause the agent to perform a task. One of the methods includes receiving a current observation characterizing a current environment state of the environment, selecting an action to be performed by the agent in response to the current observation by performing multiple iterations of outer look ahead search, wherein performing the multiple iterations of outer look ahead search comprises, in each outer look ahead search iteration: determining a proper subset of the possible future states of the environment; determining that one or more inner look ahead search commencement criteria are satisfied; and in response, performing an inner look ahead search of the proper subset of the possible future states of the environment.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer-storage media, for operating sources of electricity in an electrical grid having a forecasting error rate are described. In some implementations, a method includes selecting a forecast horizon based on the forecasting error rate; performing an optimization process for dispatch planning of the electrical grid for the selected forecast horizon; automatically operating one or more power sources of the electrical grid in accordance with the dispatch planning for a first time increment; and performing an optimization process for dispatch planning for subsequent time increments within the selected horizon after the first time increment has elapsed.
