    摘要: A telecommunications system communicates internet packet data, carrying payload data including a plurality of different data types, with a mobile communications user equipment. The system comprises a gateway support node (GGSN), a service support node (SGSN) and a radio network controller (RNC). At least one of the gateway support node (GGSN) and the user equipment (UE) are operable to: parse the payload data in each data packet; generate a radio access bearer sub-flow indicator indicating the number of different types of data in the payload and the number of symbols in each different data type; and form a transport frame including the sub-flow indicator. The data packets are communicated between the radio network controller and the user equipment by detecting the sub-flow indicator, and in accordance with the sub-flow indicator arranging for the data from each of the different data fields to be communicated via a different radio access bearer providing different quality of service parameters appropriate for the different data type.

    摘要: A telecommunications system communicates internet packet data, carrying a plurality of different types of data, to and/or from a mobile communications user equipment. The system comprises a gateway support node (GGSN), a serving support node (SGSN) and a radio network controller (RNC). The mobile user equipment (UE) is operable to communicate a context application request to the serving support node (SGSN) specifying main quality of service parameters and at least one other data field representing a request for a different set of quality of service parameters, each of the quality of service parameters being provided for one of the different types of data in the data packet. The serving support node (SGSN) is responsive to the context application request to establish a virtual channel between the gateway support node (GGSN) and the user equipment via the serving support node (SGSN), including a radio access bearer in accordance with each of the plurality of quality of service parameters for communicating the different data types. An advantage is thereby provided in that a more efficient use of radio resources can be provided, because the radio access bearer can be matched to the type of data to be communicated.

    摘要: An internet packet comprises a header field, the header field including a field identifying a source address of the internet packet, a field identifying the destination address of the internet packet and a next header field identifying whether an extension header follows the header and a type of the extension header. The extension header indicates a hop-by-hop option header, the hop-by-hop extension header including a router alert option header type indicating that the extension field is optional for a router to read, and a field providing information for a gateway support node of a packet radio system network. A gateway support node is thereby provided with information, which may be required for example to support a mobile internet protocol (IP). However, by providing the router alert option field, a router is not required to read the remainder of the hop-by-hop option field. As a result, a reduction in the performance of the router in routing internet packets, which may have been incurred if the router was required to read all the hop-by-hop extension field can be limited.

    摘要: A telecommunications system is arranged to provide a facility for communicating data to and from a mobile node using an internet protocol. The system includes a first home access network, which includes a home gateway node, a second visited access network, which includes a visited serving gateway node, and a wireless access gateway operable to communicate data to and from the mobile node using the internet protocol. The mobile node is operable to communicate a binding update message to the visited serving gateway node of the second visited access network via the wireless access gateway using the internet protocol. The binding update message includes a unique identifier of the mobile node, and a request for an internet protocol address for the mobile node as if the mobile node were attached to the first home access network (home IP address). In one example the unique identifier is an International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) number or the like. The visited serving gateway node of the second visited access network is operable, in response to the binding update message, to identify from the unique identifier of the mobile node the first home access network of the mobile node and to communicate the request for a home internet protocol address to the home gateway node. The home gateway node of the first home network is responsive to the request to allocate a home internet protocol address to the mobile node.Embodiments of the present invention provide a mobile node with roaming facilities as afforded by a 3GPP network, although the mobile node may have attached to a non-3GPP network, by arranging for the visited serving gateway node to connect to a home network of the mobile node, using for example a GPRS Tunnelling Protocol.

    摘要: A telecommunications system for communicating internet packets between a correspondent node and a mobile node. The system comprises a packet radio network providing packet data bearers for communicating internet packets with nodes. Each of the bearers is defined with respect to a source address of the internet packets, the packet radio network including a gateway support node (GGSN) to provide an interface between the external network and the packet radio network. The GGSN detects whether an internet packet is for providing a binding update to the correspondent node of a first source address of the mobile node to a care-of-address of the mobile node. If the internet packet is a binding update, the GGSN allows egress of internet packets sent from the correspondent node. By allowing egress of packets from the correspondent node having this care-of-address as the destination address, a measure of security is provided.

The packet radio network comprises a gateway support node, a serving support node and a radio network part. The gateway support node is operable to provide a packet data protocol context for controlling the communication of the internet packets to and/or from the packet radio network from and/or to the mobile user equipment via a packet communications bearer. The serving support node is connected to the gateway support node and is operable to control communications of the internet packets to and from the gateway support node to and/or from mobile user equipment to form the packet communications bearer. The radio network part is operable to provide a radio access bearer for communicating the internet packets via a radio access interface to and/or from the mobile user equipment. In response to a packet data protocol activation request message requesting a common packet data protocol context, the serving support node is operable in combination with the gateway support node to establish a common packet data protocol context in association with a packet communications bearer. The common packet data protocol context is established to communicate internet protocol packets via the packet communications bearer according to an internet protocol version specified by the mobile user equipment for one or more communications sessions. The common packet data protocol context therefore provides more flexibility, because a mobile user equipment can send both IPv4 internet packets and IPv6 internet packets as specified by the mobile user equipment. Furthermore a packet radio network according to example embodiments is provided with an arrangement for sharing the same GPRS/UMTS session, using a common packet communications bearer including the high-speed broadband radio bearers.

    摘要: A telecommunications system is operable to provide a facility for a communications session to a mobile node using an internet protocol. When changing affiliation from one of a first and second packet data network to the other of the first and second packet data network, a mobile node is operable to generate a service level identifier representing a requested priority to be afforded to the internet packets communicated to and from the mobile node with respect to other internet packets communicated to and from other nodes. The mobile node is also operable to generate a binding update internet packet providing a care of address of the mobile and an indication of the service level identifier in the binding update internet packet and to communicate the binding update internet data packets to a home agent of the mobile node. The home agent is operable in response to the binding update to identify the service level identifier and to communicate the internet packets in accordance with the requested priority represented by the service level identifier. The telecommunications system can prioritise the transmission of internet packets according to a priority requested by the mobile node represented by the service level identifier thus reducing a likelihood that mobile node will experience delays or interruptions in the transmission of data.
