Abstract: Gas lasers are described in which the tube is of metal. In one embodiment, the tube is of metal for substantially the complete axial length thereof between the electrodes, the tube being insulated from and at a floating electrical potential with respect to the electrodes. In a second described embodiment, the tube is made of a plurality of metal sections each being of optimum length to provide optimum electron temperature for maximum power output and being insulated from the other sections and from the electrodes.
