摘要： An ink-jet image forming apparatus for scanning a recording medium in a main scanning direction by an ink-jet head, and conveying the recording medium in a sub scanning direction so that a printing area formed at every scan by the recording head overlaps with an adjacent printing area at their boundary area. The apparatus includes a distribution determining unit that determines a dot distribution at every scan in the overlapped boundary area, a nozzle determining unit that determines an alternative nozzle capable of forming dots instead of an non-ejectable nozzle in the overlapped boundary area, and a dot determining unit that determines a dot size or a dot density from the alternative nozzle, on the basis of a printing position by the alternative nozzle and the dot distribution determined by the dot distribution determining unit.

摘要： An image forming apparatus performs a 1-pass recording by a single main scan with respect to a recording medium by a nozzle group including different overlapping nozzles that scan the same overlapping region on the recording medium to record dots. Alternatively, a multi-pass recording is performed by a plurality of main scans with respect to the overlapping region by the same nozzle group or by different nozzle groups. The recording in a central portion of the overlapping region is performed by placing emphasis on the succession or continuity of the dots, while the recording in boundary portions of the overlapping region is performed by placing emphasis on the scattering of the dots.

摘要： An image processing method includes dividing a first image into regions according to content of the first image; generating a second image by converting a gradation of pixels of the first image into a gradation of pixels expressible in an image forming apparatus for each region; generating a piece of simulation information of a result of the image forming/outputting process based on the second image and nozzle characteristic information of the image forming apparatus; calculating an error between the first image and a third image for each of the regions, the third image being obtained by converting the piece of simulation information with the gradation of pixels of the first image; and deciding one of the second images as rendering information used to cause the image forming apparatus to perform an image forming/outputting process, based on the calculated errors between the first image and the third images.

摘要： An image forming apparatus includes a recording head including a plurality of nozzles for ejecting recording liquid to perform image formation on a recording medium; and a correcting unit. The correcting unit is configured to divide the recording head by different division patterns each indicating that the recording head is divided into a plurality of segments by at least one different dividing point, correct input and output characteristics for each of the segments in each division pattern to calculate correction effect of the each division pattern, and determine one of the division patterns based on the calculated correction effects of the division patterns as a specified division pattern to correct input and output characteristics of the recording head.
