In the developed state of the combiner 13, the first arm 19 extends along a vertical line passing the center of gravity G of the combiner 13, and the second arm 21 and the third arm 23 are aligned on and extended along a line which couples the rear end of the base member 17 and the other end 19b of the first arm 19 and tilts from the vertical direction toward the horizontal direction so that the combiner 13 is arranged in front of the eye point I at a tilting angle of reflecting the image light of the displayed image emitted from the display device of the projector unit 9 toward the eye point I of the driver 3. In such a configuration, the virtual image of the displayed image on the combiner which is to be visually recognized from the eye point can be visually recognized stable with no shaking in a vehicle which is susceptible to the vibration from the road face.
Abstract:
A display source unit for a display device in a vehicle is provided, by which the driver is not given a physical or mental oppressive feeling to his or her head upon getting on and off the vehicle. The display source unit 9, which irradiates a light of a display image containing instrument information on a combiner 7 situated in front of an eye point I so that the irradiated light can be seen as a virtual image S from the eye point I, is provided with a cover member 13 consisting of: a front cover body 15 putting an optical element 21 for image magnification thereonto; and a rear cover body 17 hinged to the front cover body 15 with receiving a display device 23 therein. The cover member 13 is folded, thereby the light of the display image displayed on a display surface 23a of the display device 23 is reflected on a reflector 25 disposed in the cover member 13 to the optical element 21, passes through the optical element 21, and goes toward the eye point I after being reflected by the combiner 7.

A meter for a motor vehicle includes a meter case 4 for protecting components of the meter which are incorporated therein, and a front cover 9 composed of a prism which is a part of a convex lens and provided in front of the meter case 4. A dial plate 5 of the meter has an outer contour in a substantially elliptical shape so that a virtual image of the dial plate as seen through the front cover 9 may look like a substantially perfect circle. Since the virtual image of the dial plate 5 is expanded in a vertical direction due to magnification inherent in the prism 9, the dial plate 5 formed in a substantially elliptical shape will be deformed into a substantially perfect circle in sight.
Abstract:
A dial plate includes a substrate having a curve with an opening formed at the center; and an indicating member attached onto the curve of the substrate. The indicating member is a planar ring-shaped transparent resin film having an indicating portion with a scale consisting of characters and symbols and a recess portion formed partially. In this configuration, the dial plate can provide a new shape with a scale indication with a sense of depth. A mater including such a dial plate can be also provided.

A vehicle-applied display unit is provided, wherein the image light of an inverted display image emitted from a display device 3 in a dashboard 1 and passed an opening 1c of the dashboard 1 is reflected toward an eye point I by means of a combiner 5 standing from a recess 1b of the dashboard 1 positioned ahead of the eye point I. The combiner 5 is arranged outside the forward sight from the eye point I and on an optical path of a portion, of outer light entering a vehicle-inside from a vehicle-outside, going toward the display device 3 through the opening 1c at least over a whole extent, in a vehicle-width direction, of the portion of the outer light for at least partially enclosing the opening 1c over a front through both sides portions thereof, and a polarizing plate 5b is coated on an inner surface of the combiner 5.
Abstract:
A display device for use in a vehicle is provided, by which an image displayed on a display unit (display source) 5 is projected on a projection area E of a windshield 3 of the vehicle so that the foreground of the vehicle visible from an eye point I of the vehicle through the windshield 3 and a virtual image S of the image projected on the windshield 3, which is superposed upon the foreground, are seen together. The display device includes a correction member 6, disposed between the windshield 3 and the display source 5, for transmitting a light of the image therethrough so as to correct the image to be projected on the windshield 3 so that distortion of the image, which is seen from the eye point I, arising from non-plane of the projection area E of the windshield 3 is canceled out. The correction member 6 is formed by extracting a specific portion, which can cancel out the distortion of the image, from a lens having a curved surface having a single radius of curvature. By using the display device, the correction of the distorted virtual image can be accurately carried out with the inexpensive correction member 6.
