    摘要: Provided is a liquid crystal display (LCD) without a color filter, the LCD including: a liquid crystal panel comprising front and rear glass substrates and a plurality of red, green, and blue liquid crystal subpixels disposed between the front and rear glass substrates corresponding to red, green, and blue lights, respectively; a backlight unit disposed in rear of the liquid crystal panel and comprising a plurality of three-color light supply units supplying the red, green, and blue lights, respectively, and separated from one another so that the plurality of three-color light supply units are compartmentalized; and a lenticular lens array disposed between the liquid crystal panel and the backlight unit, inducing the red, green, and blue lights irradiated by the three-color light supply units into the red, green, and blue liquid crystal subpixels included in the liquid crystal panel and comprising a plurality of lenticular lens groups comprising a plurality of lenticular lenses, wherein the plurality of lenticular lens groups are separated from one another so that the plurality of lenticular lens groups are compartmentalized to correspond to the three-color light supply units, respectively. A lenticular lens array sheet is attached to the liquid crystal panel to remove the color filter in the liquid crystal panel that is the most part of light losses so that light loss can be reduced, power consumption can be reduced and manufacturing costs can be reduced.

In order to achieve a light-conductor structure (13) in which fewer limitations to the determination of its geometric shape exist, or whose appearance may be more freely configured, it is proposed that the reflecting surface (25) of the light-conductor structure (13) is curved such that light reflected from the reflecting surface (25) strikes directly with no additional reflection either again onto the reflecting surface (25) or passes into the minimum of one decoupling section (30, 45, 51).

    摘要: A light guide with input and output faces 2, 3a is polar-symmetric about the first face 2 and has optical properties such that the angle at which a ray is injected into the first face determines the position at which it leaves the second face 3a, or, if operated in the reverse direction, the position at which the ray enters the second face determines the angle at which the ray leaves the second face. The light guide includes a tapered transparent sheet 3, light from the first face entering at the thick end of this sheet, and the second face forming one face of the tapered sheet. An input/output slab 4 adjoins the tapered sheet 3 for fan-out of light from the first face 2 to the tapered sheet, and a transition region 8 is located between flat and tapered sheets. The polar symmetry means that light rays always travel in line with the taper direction, which suppresses banding. Preferably the light guide further includes a prism device 20 for folding the light so that the flat and tapered sheets can be folded over each other. A method of making such a prism is also disclosed.

For example, one disclosed embodiment comprises an optical waveguide having a first end, a second end opposing the first end, a viewing surface extending at least partially between the first end and the second end, and a back surface opposing the viewing surface. The viewing surface comprises a first critical angle of internal reflection, and the back surface is configured to be reflective at the first critical angle of internal reflection. Further, an end reflector is disposed at the second end of the optical waveguide, and includes a faceted lens structure to cause a majority of the viewing surface to be uniformly illuminated when uniform light is injected into the first end and also to cause a majority of the injected light to exit the viewing surface.

The non-rotationally symmetric non-imaging collection optics are configured to operate with LEDs to provide preferred, generally, uniform light distributions whose étendues match those of downstream applications such as those encountered in projection systems. Also provided are various arrangements for coupling LED output to the entrance aperture of collection optics and for coupling the outputs from a plurality of collection optic outputs to form single beams of illumination of preferred patterns, intensities, and color.
