A width of a small-sized printing plate precursor is smaller than a pitch dimension of a pair of positioning pins for large-sized printing plate precursors. Therefore, the small-sized printing plate precursor abuts and is positioned by positioning pins for small-sized printing plate precursors which are provided further ahead. Moreover, a large-sized printing plate precursor directly abuts and is positioned by the positioning pins for large-sized printing plate precursors, so as not to be interfered with by the positioning pins for small-sized printing plate precursors.

An air-filling cushioning material 1, in which a plurality of cells 2 having an air-fillable space are formed by adhering overlapped flexible sheets 1a, 1b at predetermined spots wherein one sheet 1a is flat while the other sheet 1b is molded beforehand into a configuration of the cells 2 in inflation at the position where the cells 2 are to be formed. Therefore, there is no such problem, as in the conventional case where the cells are formed by tucking the other sheet, the cells cannot inflate well. The cells 2 formed on the other sheet 1b can inflate sufficiently into a configuration as molded.

A pair of skewered rollers are provided at the sheet material stacking device used for the automatic exposure device. An interleaf sheet, which is fed from an interleaf sheet transport section, is guided by guide plates and nipped by the rollers. The interleaf sheet, while maintaining a so-called stronger pulling tension, is forcibly fed to an interleaf sheet accommodating section and stacked. Even if the interleaf sheet is thin, the interleaf sheet can behave stably as it is being stacked, and a number of the interleaf sheets can be stacked regularly and effectively.

An automatic exposure apparatus for printing plates and a method for exposing printing plates, which can prevent a defective image such as an unfocused image from being formed when an image is recorded onto the printing plate is provided. Suction holes are formed at a surface plate 110 of an automatic exposure apparatus 100 for printing plates, and a vacuum pump 306 communicates with the suction holes. A solenoid valve 308 is provided at a communicating path 304 between the suction holes and the vacuum pump 306, and a chamber 310 is provided at the communicating path 304 between the solenoid valve 308 and the vacuum pump 306. The solenoid valve 308 is closed and the vacuum pump 306 is operated in a state in which a photopolymer plate 102 is disposed on a top surface of the surface plate 110, and the solenoid valve 308 is opened completely in an instant in a state in which a pressure of a decompressed interior of the chamber 310 is a predetermined value or lower, such that the decompressed interior can suck air all at once from the suction holes with a strong suction force. Accordingly, a curled photopolymer plate 102 can be brought in complete contact with the top surface of the surface plate 110, and thus, a defective image such as an unfocused image is prevented when an image is recorded.
