    摘要： A magnetic head includes a main pole and a return path section located above a top surface of a substrate. The main pole has an end face located in a medium facing surface. The return path section is located on the front side in the direction of travel of a recording medium relative to the main pole and is farther from the top surface of the substrate than is the main pole. The return path section has: a front end face located on the front side of the main pole in the medium facing surface; and an inclined surface located on the front side and connected to the front end face. The inclined surface is not exposed in the medium facing surface. An angle greater than 90° is formed between the front end face and the inclined surface.

    摘要： A magnetic head includes a magnetic structure incorporating a write shield. The magnetic structure is formed to include a first magnetic layer, a second magnetic layer stacked on the first magnetic layer, and a seed layer. The first magnetic layer has a front end face located in the medium facing surface and a top surface. The second magnetic layer has a front end face located in the medium facing surface and a bottom surface. The top surface of the first magnetic layer includes a first region including an end located in the medium facing surface and a second region farther from the medium facing surface than the first region. The seed layer is not present on the first region of the top surface of the first magnetic layer but is present on the second region.

The first insulating film is interposed between the inclined surface portion and the first portion of the inclined portion, and between the interposition part and the second portion of the inclined portion. The second insulating film is interposed between the first insulating film and the second portion of the inclined portion.

The metal portion is isolated from the return path section and disposed such that the heater is interposed between the main pole and the metal portion. The return path section has a contact surface in contact with the main pole. The metal portion is located farther from the medium facing surface than is the contact surface. The main pole and the metal portion define therebetween a receiving space for receiving at least part of the heater. The at least part of the heater is received in the receiving space.

    摘要： A magnetic head includes a coil, a main pole, a write shield, and a return path section. The write shield includes a bottom shield located on the rear side in the direction of travel of a recording medium relative to the main pole. The return path section is located on the rear side in the direction of travel of the recording medium relative to the main pole and connects the bottom shield and part of the main pole away from a medium facing surface so as to define a space through which part of the coil passes. The return path section is not exposed in the medium facing surface. The bottom shield includes a base part, and a protruding part protruding from the base part toward the main pole. The base part is greater than the protruding part in length in a direction perpendicular to the medium facing surface.

The first coil is wound around the first coupling part, whereas the second and third coils are wound around the second coupling part.

    摘要： A magnetic head with a main pole is provided. The main pole has a bottom end including an inclined portion. A write shield has a first inclined surface opposed to the inclined portion and a second inclined surface that is located farther from a medium facing surface than is the first inclined surface. The first inclined surface has a first end located in the medium facing surface and a second end opposite thereto. The second inclined surface has a third end connected to the second end and a fourth end opposite thereto. The second inclined surface forms a greater angle than does the first inclined surface relative to a direction perpendicular to the medium facing surface. The distance between the main pole and an arbitrary point on the second inclined surface increases with decreasing distance between the arbitrary point and the fourth end.
