摘要： A formation testing apparatus and method for obtaining samples with lower levels of contaminants is provided. Such a method can remove contaminants from at fluid sample, and can include the steps of obtaining fluid, from a formation and passing a first quantity of the fluid through a sample flow line. A connection between the sample flow line and a sample chamber can he opened, and a first portion of the first quantity of the fluid can be drawn into the sample chamber via a floating piston. The first portion can be forced out of the sample chamber, and this process can be repeated until sufficient contaminants have been removed. Finally, a second portion of the first quantity of the fluid can be drawn into the sample chamber as the fluid sample.

The methods and embodiments may include extracting a first core from a sidewall of a wellbore with a coring tool at a first depth, ultrasonically measuring a sound speed of the first core, transmitting the ultrasonically measured sound speed of the first core to a surface display unit, analyzing the ultrasonically measured sound speed in real time, determining the quality of the first core, extracting a second core at the first depth if the first core is determined to be low quality, and extracting the second core at a second depth if the core first is determined to be high quality.

One method for telemetry transmission of downhole sonic log data includes sorting peak components in the sonic log data; compressing the sorted peak components to produce compressed data; packing the compressed data to produce data packets for telemetry transmission; and sending the data packets using telemetry.

摘要： The present invention relates to making one or more measurements in a virgin formation using a downhole tool that includes a miniature logging tool. The downhole tool is disposed in a wellbore penetrating the formation, adjacent to the formation, and a sidetrack borehole is made into the formation. All or a portion of the miniature logging tool is deployed into the sidetrack borehole and measurements are made in the virgin formation using the miniature logging tool. The downhole tool may include a drilling/coring module, a pump module, and packers. The drilling/coring module is used to make the sidetrack borehole, and the packers and pump module can be used to create an underbalanced drilling condition in an isolated section of the wellbore.

摘要： A method for estimating formation permeability from measured sonic wave Stoneley attributes and particularly the Stoneley attributes of slowness (DTst) and attenuation (ATTst), taking into consideration the existence of a heavy walled drill collar at the end of the drill string and the relative lack of borehole mud cake during a drilling operation. In the subject LWD application a real-time qualitative indication for fracture and permeable zones is estimated from Stoneley measurements. This information is useful to a driller to make important timely decisions about drilling and completion programs.
