RF (radio frequency) communication devices which use a chaotic signal and a method thereof are provided. An RF communication system includes: a transmitter terminal which generates a chaotic signal including a plurality of frequency components in a predetermined frequency band and transmits a chaotic carrier generated by inserting a data signal including information to be transmitted into the chaotic signal to a receiver terminal; and the receiver terminal extracts the data signal from the chaotic carrier received from the transmitter terminal via a wireless network and outputs the extracted data signal. As a result, low power, light weight local area RF communication devices can be realized.

Provided are a terminal performing a wake-up with consumption of low power and a wake-up method performed by the terminal. The terminal includes: a passive filter outputting a correlation signal between a received signal and a reference signal; and a wake-up controller controlling whether to wake up a communication module, using the correlation signal output from the passive filter. Thus, a wake-up signal can be processed using the passive element that does not consume power during its operation. Also, a wake-up of a communication module can be controlled using the result of processing the wake-up signal. As a result, power consumption can be greatly reduced during the wake-up.

Accordingly, high quality communications are feasible between the transmitter terminal and the receiver terminal in an optimized channel environment, and signal interference between the receiver terminals connected to different transmitter terminals can be prevented. Additionally, it is possible to carry out the channel change rapidly and efficiently and to reduce the power consumption required to transmit and receive radio signals comprising a chaotic carrier signal.

The communication apparatus includes a correlator which multiplies source data by one of an optical orthogonal code (OOC) and a prime sequence code (PSC), and outputs transmission data, a transmission signal generating unit which generates a chaotic transmission signal by masking the transmission data with respect to a chaotic signal, and an antenna which transmits the chaotic transmission signal. As a result, multiple accesses are enabled, and a wireless communication system for short-distance operation, which is economic and low power-consuming, is provided.
