摘要: A coupling optical system for coupling light into an optical fiber of an optical communications system includes a liquid that includes a dispersion of microscopic particles and two transparent media that hold the liquid between them along an optical axis. The refractive power of the liquid is variable according to the electromagnetic field applied to the liquid to vary the migration of the microscopic particles of the dispersion within the liquid. The position of a light collecting point of the coupling optical system is adjustable based on the variation in the refractive power of the liquid so that light can be efficiently coupled into optical fibers at different distances along the optical axis from the coupling optical system. At the light collecting point, the end surface of an optical fiber collects light from a light source or another optical fiber. One or more collimator lenses may help converge the light.

摘要: A fuel cell separator pair has first and second separators having front and back surfaces, a corrugated plate portion shaped in a wave form at the central portion, and a flat plate portion formed in the peripheral portion and surrounding the corrugated plate portion, wherein the corrugated plate portion of the front surface constitutes a reaction gas channel and the corrugated plate portion of the back surface constitutes a coolant channel. The back surfaces of the first and second separators are facing each other. The flat plate portions of the first and second separators are arranged on top of each other so as to be in contact with each other. The flat plate portion of the second separator protrudes toward the outside beyond the flat plate portion of the first separator. The fuel cell separator pair has a seal member (A) disposed on the flat plate portion of the front surface of the first separator, a seal member (B) disposed on the flat plate portion of the front surface of the second separator, and a seal member (C) disposed on the region protruding beyond the flat plate portion of the first separator in the flat plate portion of the back surface of the second separator.

摘要: An image scanning lens includes four lens components that may include five lens elements as follows: a first lens element having negative refractive power and a meniscus shape with its convex surface on the object side, a second lens element having positive refractive power and a meniscus shape with its convex surface on the object side, a stop, a third biconcave lens element cemented to a fourth biconvex lens element, and a fifth lens element having negative refractive power and a meniscus shape with its concave surface on the object side. The image scanning lens satisfies certain conditions related to the focal lengths of the first, second, and third lens components of the image scanning lens and to the anomalous dispersion of the second lens element. An image scanning device, such as an image scanner, with an image pickup device, such as a CCD, uses the image scanning lens.

摘要: A facsimile apparatus capable of performing the closed communication with specific calling offices by the setting in a called office. The called office previously registers identification data of predetermined calling offices. When a call is received from a calling office, the called office detects the identification data of the calling office from a control signal for standardized transmission control procedures received from the calling office, and compares the detected identification data with the registered identification data. When coincidence between the both identification data is detected, the communication is enabled between these offices.
