摘要: A color image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member for carrying an electrostatic latent image, a plurality of developing devices for developing the electrostatic latent image, a supporting member for moving the developing devices sequentially to a developing position opposing the image bearing member, and a detecting device for detecting developer remainder in the developing device. In addition, a determining portion determines the developer remainder. In the developing device in which the detecting operation is effected after the developing operation, the determining portion determines the developer remainder from the information relating to the detected developer remainder. In the developing device of the developing devices for which the detecting operation is effected before the developing operation, the determining portion determines the developer remainder from the information relating to the detected developer remainder and a deduced consumption amount.

摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a developing device, a detection mode execution unit, and a notice signal generating unit. The developing device supplies a toner bearing member with toner in a container by rotating a toner supply member in a contact manner with the toner bearing member. The detection mode execution unit executes a detection mode in which a predetermined period for changing a toner amount in the foam layer by rotating the toner supply member is provided, a capacitance C1 between the first and second electrode members is detected before the predetermined period, and a capacitance C2 between the first and second electrode members is detected after the predetermined period. The notice signal generating unit generates a low toner amount notice signal in response to an absolute value |C1−C2| of a difference between the capacitances C1 and C2 being smaller than a predetermined threshold.

摘要: In an image forming apparatus of a rotary type, when a pause is made during continuous image formation, the time taken to restart image formation after the pause is shortened so as to reduce stress on the user. In the image forming apparatus, it is determined beforehand whether the next image formation mode is a color mode or a mono mode, and a developing device to be first used in the next image formation mode is moved to a developing standby position.

摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image bearing member; a plurality of rotatable developer carrying members; a plurality of developing devices in each of which a respective one of the developer carrying members is provided; and a developing device supporting member rotatable in a direction of codirectional peripheral movement with the image bearing member where the supporting member and the image bearing member are opposed to each other and integrally supporting the plurality of said developing devices. The peripheral speed of the developing device supporting member divided by a peripheral speed of the image bearing member at the time when each of the developer carrying members departs from the surface of the image bearing member and is still rubbing the surface of the image bearing member with the developer is larger than 0 and smaller than 1.

摘要: An image forming apparatus includes a rotatable image bearing member configured to bear an electrostatic latent image, a plurality of development devices including a developer bearing member configured to bear a developer for developing the electrostatic latent image, a rotatable development device supporting member configured to support the plurality of development devices. In the image forming apparatus, the developer bearing member is configured to execute development while contacting the image bearing member at a development position via the developer, rotating in the same direction as rotating direction of the image bearing member at the development position, and rotating at a speed faster than a surface speed of the image bearing member. In addition, the development device supporting member is configured to rotate in the same direction of a rotating direction of the image bearing member at a position where the development device supporting member and the image bearing member are facing each other, and change a developer bearing member existing at the development position to another developer bearing member by rotating. Furthermore, a relative speed of a surface moving speed of the developer bearing member with respect to a surface moving speed of the image bearing member when the developer bearing member abuts on or separates from the image bearing member due to the rotation of the development device supporting member becomes higher than a relative speed of the surface moving speed of the developer bearing member with respect to the surface moving speed of the surface of the image bearing member when the electrostatic latent image is developed, and a control unit configured to control a first potential difference, which is a potential difference between a potential of a bias applied to the developer bearing member when the developer bearing member abuts on or separates from the image bearing member and a potential of the image bearing member at the development position becomes higher than a second potential difference, which is a potential difference between the potential of the bias applied to the image bearing member and a potential of a non-imaging portion of the image bearing member at the development position.
