Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing a soil conditioning agent comprising an extract of a plant from the genus Asclepias, wherein the extraction is carried out using a multi-step extraction process and to the soil conditioning agent thereof. The invention further relates to a granulate comprising the soil conditioning agent. The use of the soil conditioning agent and a granulate comprising the soil conditioning agent to control pests on agricultural land is also part of the invention.

Abstract: A soil adherent pellet is detailed that includes a soluble calcium ion source, a magnesium ion source, or both present in an amount ranging from 15% to 99.9% by weight of a total dry weight of the pellet and a binder present in an amount ranging from 85% to 0.1% by weight of the total dry weight of the pellet. The pellet having a mean pellet domain size and a pellet surface. The soil adherent pellet is well suited for flocculating clay within the soil and delivery of an active ingredient with reduced runoff compared to prior art broadcast particles. A soil adherent pellet is also provided having a soluble calcium and/or magnesium ion source that is polycrystalline and carries therewith an active ingredient.

Abstract: Presented herein are compositions including a linear tenso-active surfactant which, upon contact and mechanical stirring of a hydrocarbon body, induces emulsification, resulting in oxidation of fatty acid aliphatic bodies. The compositions solve the problem of hydrocarbon pollution. The hydrocarbon decomposer and its by-products dissolve hydrocarbons present in polluted bodies such as clays, soils, water and sand. Methods of the invention create a residue that is a fertilizer, at room temperature and with no need for high pressure.

Abstract: A grouting composition for sealing a borehole or other cavity comprising 90-99.9% finely divided water swellable clay and 0.1-10% thinner. The grouting composition is mixed with fresh water to provide a completely reswellable, unflocculated, easily placed, low permeability sealing composition. The thinner allows a very high concentration of water-swellable clay in the composition. A preferred grouting composition comprises 98-99.9% sodium bentonite and 0.1-2% polyacrylate thinner. In use, 50 lb. of the preferred grouting composition is mixed with 11-14 gallons fresh water, to provide a grouting mixture which comprises about 30-35% reswellable solids.

Abstract: Liquid or water-soluble pollutants which have entered into permeable soil strata are prevented from spreading and contaminating ground water by surrounding the contaminated zone on all sides with vertical barriers and closed off at the bottom by a horizontal injected floor which seals not only against water but also against the pollutants. The pollutant resistance of the floor is achieved by the use of injection materials on a silicate basis containing trialkoxysilanes of the general formula R-Si(OR').sub.3.

Abstract: A highly absorbent resin which is essentially a polyamine-crosslinked, partial neutralization product obtained by reaction of an alkali metal hydroxide with a carboxyl-containing polymer selected from the froup consisting of alpha-olefin-maleic anhydride copolymers, vinyl compound-maleic anhydride copolymers, polyacrylic acid, polymethacrylic acid, and mixtures thereof, the degree of neutralization of the said neutralization product being 0.4 to 0.8 equivalent of total carboxyl groups of the said carboxyl-containing polymer, the amount of polyamine as a crosslinking agent being not more than 2 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the neutralization product on the uncrosslinked basis, the resin being capable of absorbing at least 20 times its own weight of distilled water. The resin has good resistance to heat and good durability in the hydrous condition.
