Abstract: A remote communications system for providing enhanced communication with cardiac devices includes a wearable defibrillator disposed on a torso of a patient and a remote device. The wearable defibrillator includes one or more buttons configured to be actuated by the patient to indicate that the patient is conscious, a speaker configured to communicate information to the patient, a wearable defibrillator transceiver configured to transmit the information, and a processor in communication with the speaker and the wearable defibrillator transceiver. The remote device includes a wireless transceiver for bi-directional communication configured to receive the information from the wearable defibrillator, at least one of a touch screen and a speaker, and a processor configured to cause the remote device to provide via the at least one of the touch screen and the speaker at least one of an alarm, voice message, and prompt based on the received information.

Abstract: A wearable defibrillator includes a plurality of ECG electrodes removably attached to a patient and configured to sense a cardiac condition of the patient, and at least one therapy pad configured to deliver electrical therapy to the patient. The wearable defibrillator may include a microphone configured to receive an audio input and sense environmental noise and a speaker configured to output one or more alarms signaling that treatment is about to be provided to the patient. At least one processor of the wearable defibrillator is operatively connected to the plurality of ECG electrodes, the at least one therapy pad, a memory, and the at least one audio device. The at least one processor is configured to monitor the sensed cardiac condition and increase a volume of the one or more alarms when the microphone senses from the environmental noise that the wearable defibrillator is in a high noise environment.

Abstract: A remote alarm for use with a wearable medical device. The remote alarm is configured to receive alarms, voice messages and prompts issued by the wearable medical device and to repeat those alarms, voice messages and prompts in a manner that can more easily be perceived by a patient wearing the wearable medical device or a bystander. The remote alarm can be configured to receive a communication from the wearable medical device, and in response, to identify one or more messages to be provided to the patient or a bystander. The messages may be provided audibly, visually, tactilely or combinations thereof. The remote alarm may further be configured to take certain actions depending upon the content of the communication, such as sending a telephone message to alert emergency personnel to the identity, location and medical condition of the patient, or sending an email.

Abstract: A wearable defibrillator includes a plurality of ECG electrodes configured to be removably attached to a patient and sense ECG information of the patient, and at least one therapy pad configured to deliver electrical therapy to the patient. The wearable defibrillator includes at least one audio device including a microphone configured to receive an audio input and an audio output device configured to provide an audio output. At least one processor of the wearable defibrillator is operatively connected to the plurality of ECG electrodes, the at least one therapy pad, a memory, and the at least one audio device. The at least one processor is configured to in a set up phase, receive by the microphone and store in the memory, the audio input comprising a voice recording, and cause the audio output device to provide the audio output by to playing back the voice recording to the patient.

Abstract: A cardiac monitoring and treatment system includes a wearable defibrillator worn about the torso of a patient and a remote device configured to communicate with the wearable defibrillator. The wearable defibrillator includes one or more buttons configured to be actuated by the patient to cause the wearable defibrillator to withhold an imminent delivery of a therapy necessitated by a detected cardiac arrhythmia. The remote device includes a touch screen including one or more remote response buttons accessible by the patient to respond to a notification of the imminent delivery of the therapy necessitated by the detected cardiac arrhythmia. Actuation of either the one or more remote response buttons of the remote device or the one or more buttons of the wearable defibrillator causes the wearable defibrillator to withhold the imminent delivery of the therapy necessitated by the detected cardiac arrhythmia.

Abstract: A wearable defibrillator for monitoring treatable arrhythmias in a patient in the presence of background noise includes a plurality of sensing electrodes configured to generate ECG data, one or more therapy pads, one or more audio devices, and one or more processors. The one or more audio devices include a microphone configured to detect background noise and a speaker. The one or more processors are configured to determine, from at least the ECG data, whether the patient is experiencing a treatable arrhythmia; cause, via the speaker, an audible alarm in response to determining that the patient is experiencing the treatable arrhythmia; delay a delivery of treatment to the patient in response to determining that at least the predetermined level of background noise exists; and during the delay, perform at least one of obtaining additional data or running an additional test to verify that the patient is experiencing the treatable arrhythmia.

Abstract: A wearable remote device includes a user interface, a strap configured to removably secure the wearable remote device to a wrist of a patient such that the user interface is accessible by the patient, and a wireless transceiver configured to wirelessly communicate with a wearable defibrillator. The wearable remote device includes a processor coupled to the user interface and wireless transceiver to provide a notification relating to at least one of device information relating to the wearable defibrillator and a cardiac arrhythmia communicated by the wearable defibrillator via the wireless transceiver. Responsive to a determination that the notification is of an urgent nature, the processor is configured to cause the user interface to communicate the notification, and responsive to a determination that the notification is not of an urgent nature, cause the user interface to store information relating to the notification in a memory of the wearable remote device.
