Abstract: A method of operating a personal safety system including a vehicle includes automatically detecting that a smartphone is within a communication range using a wireless communication system of the vehicle, and starting an approach time period with a controller of the vehicle or the smartphone when the smartphone is detected. The method further includes sending checkup data from the vehicle to the smartphone using the wireless communication system when the smartphone fails to arrive at the vehicle prior to the approach time period elapsing, and triggering an emergency response by the vehicle and/or the smartphone when the vehicle fails to receive a response to the checkup data from the smartphone within a response time period.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for foot sensors to be used to determine at least two characteristics of a subject's activity by using a combination of sensors for force and foot orientation/motion/position. A wearable footwear ecosystem is comprised of the subject's footwear, sensor-enabled insoles or insertable devices, in- or on-footwear electronics that is hard wired to the sensors and may contain additional sensors such as accelerometers, a master device and means to communicate (typically wirelessly) among the various sensor platforms, and the master device including clock synchronization. Correlating the time stamps for data among various sensors, and the master device communicating wirelessly is critical to accurate determination of the desired characteristics. Multiple force-sensitive resistors on a common substrate are individually optimized for dynamic range. Pulse sensors using arrays of such force-sensitive resistors are implemented. The resultant system can profitably be used for gaming, biometric monitoring, and activity tracking.

Abstract: Earphones comprise a first earphone for collecting a first biosignal and a second earphone for collecting a second biosignal. The second earphone is wirelessly connected to the first earphone and configured to quantize the second biosignal into a second digital signal and transmit the second digital signal to the first earphone together with a set of marker bits representing a time at which the second biosignal is collected. The first earphone includes a biosignal processor configured to quantize the first biosignal into a first digital signal and synchronize the first and second digital signals with reference to the set of marker bits to generate an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal; and a transmitter configured to transmit the ECG signal to a digital device wirelessly connected to the first earphone.

Abstract: Provided is an atomization device and an electronic cigarette. The atomization device includes a housing, an atomization module, a functional module and a power storage battery module. An atomization liquid is stored in the housing. The atomization module is disposed within the housing, the atomization module includes an electrically conductive heating circuit, and the electrically conductive heating circuit is capable of heating and atomizing the atomization liquid when the electrically conductive heating circuit is energized. The functional module includes a gas component detection unit. The power storage battery module is electrically connected to the functional module and capable of supplying power to the functional module. The power storage battery module is electrically connected to the electrically conductive heating circuit. While the electrically conductive heating circuit is energized, the power storage battery module is charged.

Abstract: The disclosed technology provides for generating simulation training models that can be used to prepare people (i.e., building occupants, first responders) to safely and calmly respond to emergencies, such as fires in high-rise buildings. Using the training models, people can better cope with decision-making during emergencies. The disclosed technology also uses signaling devices, wearables, and other devices and sensors distributed throughout a building to provide egress or stay-in-place guidance to people located in the building during an emergency. Audio and/or visual information can be outputted to people to guide them along a safe pathway that is selected to provide safe egress for the person, including anticipating and protecting the person from changing emergency conditions within the building and in response to how the person responded to the simulation training models.

Abstract: An embodiment of a method for assessing cardiovascular disease in a user with a body region using a mobile computing device including a camera module, includes receiving a time series of image data of a body region of the user, the time series of image data captured during a time period; generating a photoplethysmogram dataset from the time series of image data; generating a processed PPG dataset; determining a cardiovascular parameter value of the user based on the processed PPG dataset; fitting a chronobiological model to (1) the cardiovascular parameter value, and (2) a subsequent cardiovascular parameter value, characterizing a cardiovascular parameter variation over time of the user based on the fitted chronobiological model; and presenting an analysis of the cardiovascular parameter variation to the user at the mobile computing device.
