摘要: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and system for archiving and compacting data in a data storage array. In one embodiment, a plurality of archivable files are identified, archived, and removed from a data storage array. A first configuration of the data storage array is then determined in which the free space on each of a plurality of data storage devices in the data storage array is calculated. A process is performed for moving a plurality of files from a first of the data storage devices to other data storage devices in the data storage array. The moving process is repeated to create a second configuration of the data storage array. In the second configuration, the first data storage device has a greater amount of free space than in the first configuration.

摘要: Methods and apparatus that integrate management frameworks with an enterprise manager in a grid computing environment are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, a grid computing system includes a management arrangement and at least a first management framework. The management arrangement includes an integration arrangement that brokers requests. The first management framework sends a first request to the integration arrangement which effectively allows the first management framework to communicate bi-directionally with the management arrangement.

摘要: A mechanism and method for querying between two data centers managed by two different data center management products is described. A single information query model is utilized to query multiple instances of another data center, which receives, translates and responds to the information query through the use of a schema. Knowledge of the other (foreign) data center's APIs for each instance is made unnecessary. Improved query efficiency is achieved by combining a plurality of disparate queries into a single information query. The responses to the plurality of queries are populated into a single reply to the information query, which is then transmitted back to the querying data center, translated and made readable to the IT administrator.

摘要: A VCI (visual context indicator) color is assigned deterministically and proactively at runtime to user data contexts, and is not stored in the database, spreadsheet, or other context. VCI colors can be high contrast friendly colors. The same color is assigned to a given context each time the application runs unless the context's identifying property has changed. Color assignments are not made by users or by the application's designer, but are done instead by hashing from a context's identifying property into a VCI color palette containing, e.g., eight to sixteen colors. Unlike text-selection coloring, VCI coloring is based on the user data context's identifying property. The color assignment visually indicates context by displaying the context's name in the VCI color, or by displaying a graphical element in the VCI color near the context name. VCI color assignment also shows the occurrence and result of changes in user data context.
