    摘要: A magnetic recording transducer for use in a data storage device includes a writer pole with a ABS surface, trailing edge bevel and a trailing shield. The effective throat height of the writer main pole is reduced by the use two gap layers between the writer main pole and the trailing shield. A first gap layer is on and in contact with the writer pole trailing surface, and a second gap layer is on a section of the first gap layer on the writer pole trailing edge bevel, from a point removed from the ABS surface and absent from a part on a section of the first gap layer on the writer pole trailing edge bevel nearest the ABS. A method of fabricating the transducer is also provided.

    摘要: The method and system provide a perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) head having an air bearing surface (ABS). The PMR head includes first and second poles each having front and back gap regions, a first nonmagnetic insertion layer between the back gap regions, a magnetic pole layer with a front terminating at the ABS, a write gap, shield(s), a second nonmagnetic insertion layer between the second pole back gap region and the shield(s), and coil(s) between the shield(s) and the first pole. The magnetic pole layer terminates between the ABS and the second pole back gap region and has pole angle(s) of at least thirty and not more than fifty degrees. At least part of the magnetic pole layer resides on the second pole. Part of the shield(s) are adjacent to the write gap. Another part of the shield(s) is coupled with the second pole back gap region.

    摘要: A hard disk drive with a disk that has a servo field with an A servo burst and a B servo burst. The A servo burst has a trimmed erase band. The trimmed erase band can be created by offsetting the write head relative to a burst centerline to reduce the width of the erase band. For example, the write head can be moved toward a centerline of the A servo burst. The offset can be a function of write current and cylinder location of the disk. The offsets are selected so that the resultant burst profiles do not contain a flat minimum portion.

    摘要: A frame-rate converter reduces halo artifacts along edges of moving objects. Halo artifacts occur on interpolated frames where a moving object covers and uncovers pixels along its edges. Motion estimation among three original frames produces hybrid direction motion vectors that are bi-directional for background and objects, but are unidirectional for covered and uncovered regions, since motion vectors with large matching errors are deleted. Covered regions in the interpolated frame are detected as intersecting only a forward but no backward hybrid motion vector. Bi-directional motion estimation from the hybrid motion vectors of two original frames produces refined motion vectors for the interpolated frame. Refined motion vectors in the covered regions are deleted and replaced with hybrid motion vectors from the original frames. Hybrid motion vectors from the original frames are assigned to the critical covered regions rather than using interpolated vectors in the covered regions, reducing halo artifacts.
