    摘要: A communication system determines whether to establish a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint communication for conveyance of Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services (MBMS) data based on a number of user equipments being serviced by the communication system for MBMS service. The system broadcasts an access probability factor in a control message to the user equipments. For a large number of MBMS users being counted, the method will select a point-to-multipoint broadcast. If the number of user equipments being counted is relatively small, the access probability factor is modified by a ratio of the number of point-to-point connections over the point-to-multipoint connections over the number of users being counted. The UE may need to join multiple base stations' in the counting procedure to obtain the system diversity gain.

    摘要: A communication system (100) determines whether to establish a point-to-multipoint communication or a point-to-point communication for conveyance of Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (MBMS) data based on a number of mobile stations (MSs) (102-104), both idle mode and maintaining an active connection, serviced by the system and subscribed to an MBMS service. The system, broadcasts (306) a control message that includes an access probability factor. In order to avoid overloading the system with responses to the control message, MSs maintaining an active connection ignore (506, 508) the control message while idle mode MSs determine (506, 512) whether to respond based on the access probability factor. The system compares (310) a number of received responses to a threshold and determines whether to establish a point-to-multipoint communication (312) or a point-to-point communication (322) based on the comparison. The system also adjusts (314, 330) the access probability factor based on the number of responses.

The registration manager registers the user devices connected to the gateway at the customer premises and stores information for the registered user devices, including identities for the user devices, at the gateway.     摘要: A multimode customer premises gateway supports multiple different types of telecommunications signaling protocols to allow different types of user devices to connect to the gateway and access both Internet Protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS), and non-IMS services. The gateway includes a connection manager configured to provide a non-IMS user device connected to the gateway with access to an IMS service using an IP multimedia services identity module (ISIM) for the gateway. A protocol converter translates information between an IMS protocol and a non-IMS protocol to enable the connection manager to provide the non-IMS device with access to the IMS service. The connection manager is also configured to provide an IMS user device with access to the IMS service and to provide a non-IMS user device with access to a non-IMS service.
