摘要: Methods and devices for power imbalance compensation and calibration of a coherent transmitter or transceiver are described. A pilot tone is combined with a digital data signal such that relative amplitudes of the pilot tone in each of four transmitted optical data channels may be detected by a pilot tone detector and used to calculate any power imbalances between I/Q phase channels and/or X/Y polarized channels of the transmitter. The pilot tone detector applies gain to the data signal of the transmitter to compensate for any calculated power imbalances. Because the pilot tone is combined with the digital data signal, its amplitude in each received channel is proportional to the data signal power of that channel.

摘要: The present applies to digital wavelength converters that convert, independently of the format in which optical data may be encoded, an input waveform at a first wavelength to an output waveform at a second wavelength. When operating in an environment where an input waveform has a pilot tone associated thereto, the method and system of the present disclosure allows for the removal of the pilot tone from the input waveform, and also allows for the addition of another pilot to the output waveform.

摘要: An aspect of the disclosure provides methods and systems for encoding a data bit stream onto a pilot tone signal. Another aspect of the disclosure provides method and systems for pilot tone detection. In both, a coded pilot tone signal is encoded using a code sequence m1 for each bit value of 1 (b1) and a code sequence m0 for each bit value of 0 (b0) of a data bit stream including pilot tone data bit values of 1 (b1) and bit values of 0 (b0), with each code sequence having multiple coding bits in the duration of each bit. Pilot tone detection can further include decoding each code sequence of the coded pilot tone signal using a plurality of successive overlapping measurement windows. In some embodiments each measurement window is of the same duration, being of the duration of each code sequence, and detecting each code sequence comprises selecting one of the plurality of measurement windows to represent a complete code sequence.

摘要: The present disclosure relates to a method, an apparatus and a system for monitoring performance of optical network equipment. The method comprises receiving an optical channel signal comprising a first pilot tone in a first spectral sub-band of the optical channel signal and a second pilot tone in a second spectral sub-band of the optical channel signal, the first and the second spectral sub-bands being on opposite sides of a reference frequency of the optical channel signal. The performance of the optical network equipment is monitored based on a power mismatch between the first and second pilot tones of the received optical channel signal. An apparatus and a system for monitoring performance of the optical network equipment are also described.

摘要: A monitoring and calibration apparatus for an optical networking device such as ROADM is provided. Reflectors are integrated into the device, for example at the ends of optical interconnect cables. The reflectors reflect light in specific monitoring wavelengths and pass other wavelengths such as those used for communication. A light source emits monitoring light which is reflected by the reflector and measured by a detector to measure the integrity of optical paths. The optical paths can include optical cables and cable connectors. Path integrity between different modules of the device can therefore be monitored. Multiple reflectors, reflecting light in different wavelengths, can be placed in series along the same optical path and used to monitor multiple segments of the path. A wavelength selective switch (WSS) of the device can be used to route monitoring light to different optical paths. The WSS also operates to route communication signals in the device.
