    Abstract: A pressure switch is disclosed, comprising: a spool forming a pressure sensitive end; an actuating rod extended into the spool and slidable over a limited range within the pressure switch under external fluid pressure on the pressure sensitive end; a switch housing containing a switch operatively connected to the actuating rod; and a cylindrical connector terminating in a first axial end and a second axial end, the cylindrical connector being threaded into the spool at the first axial end and into the switch housing at the second axial end. A pressure switch is also disclosed comprising: a housing defining an interior bore that terminates in a pressure sensitive end of the housing; an actuating rod slidable over a limited range within the interior bore under external fluid pressure on the pressure sensitive end; a switch, within the housing, operatively connected to the actuating rod; and outwardly extending fins mounted on the housing.

    Abstract: A pressure actuated switch has a diaphragm mounted across a piston having a piston head. Movement of the piston under pressure variations acting on the diaphragm actuates the pressure switch. A support disc is provided for the diaphragm, the support disc being mounted between the diaphragm and the piston. The support disc is preferably made of a high tensile elastic material and has an outer annulus that extends beyond the piston head, an inner disc that is smaller in diameter than the piston head; and a flexible intermediate annulus cantilevered between the outer annulus and the inner disc.

    Abstract: A drill stabilizer is formed of housing with a mandrel extending from the housing between a first shoulder and a second shoulder, the mandrel having a mandrel axis and an outer diameter adjacent the first shoulder, and at least three stabilizing rollers mounted sequentially along the mandrel between the first and second shoulders. Each stabilizing roller has an axis of rotation radially offset from the mandrel axis in an offset direction and distributed symmetrically around the mandrel axis. The diameter of each stabilizing roller is such that each stabilizing roller has a perimeter that extends further radially outward than the outer diameter of the housing in the offset direction of the respective stabilizing roller and does not extend further radially outward than the outer diameter in the direction opposite to the offset direction. Each stabilizing roller includes at least three slanted flutes distributed symmetrically about the perimeter of stabilizing roller and extending lengthwise along the stabilizing roller.

    Abstract: A pin and box of a threaded connection are provided with interference fit metal-to-metal seals on both sides of a reverse thread section. The pin nose and box nose respectively are received in undercuts in the box shoulder and nose shoulder. The pin nose and box nose engage the respective shoulders at the same time on make-up. The thread section has a low profile, and the pin and box are kept short to reduce bending stresses.

    Abstract: An apparatus for sensing pressure is provided comprising a housing, electronics, a pressure sensor and a secondary seal. The housing comprises an interior bore and a first end, with the interior bore forming an opening at the first end. The electronics may be disposed in the interior bore. The pressure sensor is mounted at the first end of the interior bore. The pressure sensor may be operatively connected to send signals to the electronics in response to external fluid pressure. The pressure sensor may, at least in part, form a primary seal at the first end of the interior bore. The secondary seal may be disposed in the interior bore in between the pressure sensor and the electronics. The secondary seal may be configured to act as a backup seal to the primary seal. The secondary seal provides an added degree of safety from high pressure pipeline contents. The secondary seal also ensures that the important interior electrical components of the apparatus are not damaged upon failure of any component located at the first end. If the pressure sensor or primary seal is damaged, for example, a new pressure sensor or primary seal may be installed without having to replace the entire apparatus. The secondary seal also prevents fluid from a high pressure pipeline that has compromised the primary seal from being ejected from the pipeline. The secondary seal also prevents pipeline media from migrating through the electrical cable to a non-hazardous location.

    Abstract: An improved threaded joint for connecting a first tubular member, for example a valve housing, with an outer end having interior threads with pitch W and terminating in a shoulder. A second tubular member has an exterior threaded end and a flanged end. A shoulder extends outwardly of the second tubular member intermediate the threaded and flanged ends. A flange at the flanged end has N equally circumferentially spaced connectors. The valve assembly has a corresponding conical seat portion for receiving the conical section of the side entry cap in sealing relationship. An annular groove is formed in one of the conical section of the sealing portion and the conical seat portion of the valve assembly, the annular groove being defined by walls extending inward from the respective one of the conical section of the sealing portion and the conical seat portion of the valve assembly. An annular sealing element is disposed within the annular groove.

    Abstract: A pressure switch has a housing with an interior bore extending from one end to the other. A rod slidable within the bore and operated by external fluid pressure extends between a piston at one end of the housing and a mechanically operated electrical switch at the other end of the housing. A spring is disposed about the rod between a first stop on the rod and a second stop on the housing. The spring provides resistance against movement of the rod under external pressure. The resistance of the spring to movement is adjusted by a sleeve engaging the spring, with the sleeve threaded into the bore of the housing for movement longitudinally within the housing. A split ring wedged between two other rings resists movement of the rod to longitudinal movement.
