    摘要: A support mechanism for a workpiece cut off by electrical discharges in a travelling wire EDM apparatus. The workpiece is supported between support members provided with clamps. One support member is controllably pivotable around a horizontal axis, while the second support member is displaceable vertically and horizontally along crossed axes. In addition, the second support member may be rotated around a vertical axis. Through appropriate sequential operation of the clamps and relative displacement of the support members, the areas of the workpiece clamped by the clamps may be changed at will, and the cuttings from the workpiece may be supported by one of the clamp members to prevent the fall of the cuttings at the end of a cutting operation.

    摘要: In the electrical discharge machining of the surface of a recess in a workpiece electrode to a shape corresponding to that of a tool electrode, the electrodes are relatively displaced, during a finishing phase of machining, along an axis of penetration and simultaneously in a plane perpendicular to the axis of penetration with a cyclic translational movement whose amplitude increases with the penetration of the tool in the workpiece. This provides a virtual three-dimensional dilatation of the tool as it advances, and enables control of the sparking in both the frontal and lateral parts of the machining zone. The cyclic translational movements are obtained from a rotatable shaft having an axis parallel to the axis of penetration and an eccentric member cooperating with the rotatable shaft to slide relative to the shaft in a direction forming a predetermined angle with the direction of penetration, the eccentric member being rotated in unison with the shaft about its axis.

    摘要: An EDM method and apparatus for cutting a workpiece by a wire electrode in the form of a metallic tape or wire, in which the traction exerted on the wire electrode by the mechanism feeding the wire electrode in the machining zone between the wire electrode and the workpiece is modified momentarily, and the variation of machining rate caused by the momentary modification of the force of traction exerted on the wire electrode is detected. The direction in which the machining rate is changed provides an indication of the effect, on the wire electrode, of the transverse forces which deflect the wire in the machining zone, relative to its longitudinal axis. The direction in which the machining rate varies is used to select the direction in which a predetermined machining parameter affecting the transverse forces applied on the wire electrode is changed, such as to maintain the wire electrode properly aligned along its longitudinal axis.

The invention provides a control of the amplitude of the relative translation motion of the electrodes while displacing the direction of said motion as soon as a predetermined orbiting path limit is reached such as to allow a rapid increase of the gap between the electrodes when the electrode tool is retracted.
