    摘要: A method and apparatus for threading the electrode wire of a trailing wire EDM apparatus through a starter hole or aperture in the workpiece or through the machined slot, the workpiece being submerged in a machining fluid. A chamber is disposed in contact with the workpiece under the workpiece, the chamber being in communication with an end of the aperture through the workpiece. The chamber is connected to a source of suction, with the result that fluid being sucked through the aperture in the workpiece converges towards the inlet of the aperture and guides the end of the electrode wire into the inlet of the aperture.

    摘要: A threading mechanism for threading the electrode wire of a travelling wire EDM apparatus, the end of the electrode wire being passed through a starter hole or aperture in the workpiece prior to effecting a cutting operation in the workpiece, wherein the entrance throat to the wire conveying mechanism adapted to take hold of the wire after passage through the starter aperture is offset laterally relative to the axis of the starter hole such as to laterally displace the wire to engage the wire with a guiding surface and a current feeding surface which are also offset relative to the axis of travel of the wire through the starter aperture.

    摘要: The present invention relates to improvements in methods and apparatus for welding by electron bombardment, utilizing an electron gun directing an electron beam into a chamber under partial continuous vacuum maintained by continuous pumping. The partial vacuum chamber terminates in a working chamber, and a valve device separates the partial vacuum chamber from the working chamber, the latter being fixed on a support actuated by a displacement device acting in a direction perpendicular to the electron beam. The gun is associated in known manner with a means for maintaining high vacuum and communicating with the partial vacuum chamber through a narrow orifice provided with a closure device, the partial vacuum chamber being associated with individual continuously-acting pumps. The displacement device comprises a first trolley slidably mounted on a second trolley and moving at right angles to the beam, the second trolley being slidably mounted in turn along a direction at right angles to that of the first trolley, on the frame of the machine.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for continuously supplying and recycling machining liquid in an EDM device employ a filter between a liquid reservoir and a machining location at which the liquid is used. In one embodiment of the invention a buffer reservoir is provided between the filter and the machining location, while in another embodiment a second filter is connected in parallel with the first-mentioned filter. In either case, an assured alternative supply of filtered liquid is provided while the filter is repeatedly stopped and started in response to one or more operating parameters representing a degree of filter clogging. The stopping of the partially-clogged filter unexpectedly permits self-regeneration of the filter without the need for dismounting or backflushing for cleaning; even though cleaning is not performed, the repeated stopping by itself extends the useful life of the filter.

    摘要: A method of and apparatus for regulating an electron-beam welding generator of the kind having three electrodes viz: a cathode, a Wehnelt electrode and an anode. The method is characterized by a suitable combination of two methods of regulating an electron beam welding gun. One of these methods includes varying and regulating the very high voltage while maintaining the voltage applied to the Wehnelt electrode at the potential of the cathode (operation of the "diode" kind). The other method includes holding the very high voltage constant while regulating or programming the welding current by means of the voltage to the Wehnelt electrode (operation of the "triode" kind). The variations in and regulation of the very high voltage are controlled by an induction regulator associated with a thyristorized regulator.
