Abstract: A recirculating sewerage system comprising a water closet, a selectively inclined effluent receiving member including filtering media at least at the upper portion thereof, means for directing the effluent flushed from the water closet onto the top surface of the effluent receiving member proximate the uppermost portion thereof whereby the liquid portion of the flushed effluent will pass through the filtering media and the solid portion of the flushed effluent will slide down the effluent receiving member, means for collecting the portion of the flushed effluent which passes through the filtering media, means for selectively recirculating the filtrate collected in the collecting means to flush the water closet, means for selectively draining the filtrate collecting means, means for collecting the portion of the flushed effluent which slides off of the effluent receiving member, a reservoir for receiving grey water discharge from a bathing facility, means for selectively directing grey water contained in the reservoir to the filtrate collecting means, and means for directing grey water from the reservoir to the bottom portion of the effluent receiving member when the level of the grey water in the reservoir exceeds a predetermined maximum level whereby any solids which remain on the effluent receiving member will be washed therefrom into the solids collecting means.

Abstract: A recirculating sewage system comprising a toilet, a recirculating tank, means for draining the recirculating tank, means for directing the effluent flushed from the toilet into the recirculating tank, pump means communicating with the recirculating tank, means for operating the system in a flushing mode including means for energizing the pump means and means for recirculating the effluent discharged by the pump means to the toilet to flush same, and means for operating the system in a drain mode including means for energizing the pump means and means for recirculating the effluent discharged by the pump means to the recirculating tank to establish turbulence in the contents thereof whereby when the draining means is activated, operation of the system in the drain mode will assure a more effective drainage of the recirculating tank.

Abstract: A sewerage treatment system comprising a water closet, a bathing facility, first and second recirculating tanks each including filtering media for dividing the tanks into horizontally adjacent receptacle and filtrate compartments and a drain in the receptacle compartments thereof, means for selectively directing the effluent flushed from the water closet into the receptacle compartment of either recirculating tank, means for selectively directing the effluent from the bathing facility into either recirculating tank, means for selectively draining either recirculating tank, means for selectively recirculating the liquid in the filtrate compartment of either recirculating tank to the water closet for flushing same, means for operating the system in a first mode of operation wherein the effluent from the water closet is discharged into the receptacle compartment of the first recirculating tank, the liquid in the filtrate compartment of the first recirculating tank is selectively recirculated to the water closet, and the effluent from the bathing facility is discharged into the second recirculating tank, and means for alternately operating the system in a second mode of operation wherein the effluent from the water closet is discharged into the receptacle compartment of the second recirculating tank, the liquid in the filtrate compartment of the second recirculating tank is selectively recirculated to the water closet, and the effluent from the bathing facility is discharged into the first recirculating tank, and means for draining the first recirculating tank and for switching the system from the first mode of operation to the second mode of operation.

Abstract: A tank for converting an overboard discharge type boat head to a recirculating sewage system includes a filter dividing the tank into receiving and recirculating chambers, a sump in the receiving chamber for facilitating tank discharge, a snap-on cover engaging the upper edges of the tank side walls, a rinsing nozzle for periodically cleaning the filter, and depressions formed in the tank side walls to accommodate tie-down bolts which extend from the cover to anchorages on the boat structure. The tank side walls are constructed from a translucent or transparent material so that the liquid level therein may be observed and a shoulder is formed in the side walls to indicate the correct level of priming materials in the tank.
