The optical pickup includes a photodetector that receives a main light beam and a plurality of sub-light beams reflected from an information storage medium and diffracted by a diffracting element. The photo detector detects a tracking error signal using zeroth-order light as the main light beam and using one of first-order light and third-order light as the sub-light beam based on a type of an optical information storage medium.

The method includes transporting a disc to a chucking position where a spindle is positioned using a loading roller, blocking power transferred from a loading motor to the loading roller, and chucking the disc on the spindle using power from the loading motor. Accordingly, damages to the disc caused by chucking may be prevented.

The apparatus includes a bias signal generator for generating a bias signal for canceling a direct current (DC) offset of a push-pull signal using a tracking control signal generated by the tracking controller. Accordingly, an offset generated in a tracking error signal may be canceled or otherwise reduced using the bias single instead of using an additional side beam.
