摘要:
A papermaking fabric and method therefor is disclosed which may be used as a support fabric or a carrier fabric for paper material on a papermaking machine. The fabric, designated generally as (A) includes a first layer (B) of warp yarns (32, 34, 36, and 38) extending in a machine direction. A second layer (C) of warp yarns (42, 44, 46 and 48) is included in the fabric vertically spaced from the first layer. The warp yarns of the first and second layer form stacked pairs (52, 54, 56, and 58) which reinforce the fabric in a machine direction to enhance its stability. At the same time, the stacked pairs may be spaced apart in a cross-machine direction sufficiently to provide a desired degree of openness and fabric permeability. Fabric openness in the range of thirty percent or more of the total fabric area can be had in accordance with the fabric of the present invention without sacrificing the structural stability. A single weft system (40) is interwoven with the first and second warp layers (B and C) in a balanced weave pattern that maintains the warp yarns of the respective layers stacked. The balanced weave pattern of the weft resists lateral shifting of the stacked warp yarns to prevent them from becoming side-by-side. In a preferred embodiment, the fabric is utilized as a base fabric for a resinous layer 62 which supports the paper and has an embossed surface 64 which makes a corresponding pattern in the paper, such as in towel grade paper.

A multi-layer paper machine fabric having a preselected permeability value and an increased weft wise stiffness including a single system of warp threads and multiple layers of weft threads including at least support surface weft threads, intermediate layer weft threads and lower surface weft threads interwoven with the warp threads. The surface layer weft threads are arranged to have at least a first thickness and the intermediate layer and lower surface weft threads are arranged to have a second and equal thickness greater than the first thickness of the surface layer weft threads. The second thickness is selected relative to the first thickness to achieve the preselected permeability value and the preselected weft wise stiffness value of the paper machine fabric. Alternate ones of the support layer weft threads are arranged in vertically stacked rows with the intermediate and lower layer weft threads and intermediate ones of the support layer weft threads are arranged between the vertical rows.

An imprinting through air multi-layer drying fabric for use with a papermaking machine comprising a plurality of MD (machine direction) yarns forming a continuous loop and a plurality of CMD (cross machine direction yarns) interlacing with said MD yarns and extending in the width direction. The fabric is formed to have a support surface and a machine surface with the machine surface comprising a plurality of load bearing MD yarns arranged side-by-side across the width of the fabric, and interlaced in a first pattern with the CMD yarns to provide an even knuckle distribution over the first layer. The support surface is formed of second plurality of non-load bearing MD yarns arranged side-by-side interlaced with the CMD yarns in s second pattern producing raised MD yarn floats arranged in a staggered arrangement in the MD direction to produce a desired pattern. The floats are capable of imparting selected patterned imprints onto the surface of a paper product supported thereon while passing through the papermaking machine.

A fabric for use with a paper forming machine comprising a set of MD blended synthetic monofilaments having a first diameter and which are in a five shed Atlas weave pattern with the MD monofilaments passing over four and under one of the CD monofilaments to form a MD monofilament dominant first surface and a CM monofilament dominant second surface. The upper surface of the MD monofilaments are arranged on the first surface to extend along a common plan which is above a plane formed by the uppermost surfaces of the CM monofilaments by an amount equal to at least 5 percent of the diameter of the MD monofilaments. Also, a lower surface of the CM monofilaments is arranged on the second surface to extend along a common plane which is below a plane formed by the lower most surfaces of the MD monofilaments by an amount equal to at least 5 percent of the diameter of the MD monofilaments. The MD and CM monofilaments are comprised of a blend of between eighty percent and ninety-nine percent polyethylene-terephtalate and between one percent and twenty percent fluorocarbon polymers. Accordingly, a fabric having improved wear resistance increased pocket depth and improved paper product release qualities is provided.

A paper machine felt comprising a base fabric of a predetermined width and length, a plurality of fiber batts having a predetermined length and width with fibers forming the fiber batts extending in the width direction, the fiber batts being arranged to extend along their length in juxtaposed manner across the width of the base fabric and to be intertangled therewith by needling so that the fibers extend in the length direction of the base fabric.

A woven dryer fabric A having a low fabric permeability characteristic is disclosed having multiple layers in which an intermediate layer includes cabled multi-filament weft elements (B) consisting of low-melt monofilament strands twisted together which are melted in the fabric to effect closure of the fabric mesh. In the weaving process, the cabled multi-filament weft elements have a softer texture which renders them more flexible and allows a more dense mesh count to provide for greater pre-melt void coverage. After melt, the multi-filaments become fused and flow into the void areas of the shed for more complete void coverage.

A fluid permeable fabric is disclosed having particular advantages as a dryer fabric for papermaking is disclosed. The fabric includes a number of helix A extending cross-wise in the fabric and joined together along the length dimension by pintles 38. Crevice spaces 40 formed by intermeshing bend portions extending into the loop openings C are closed by a contoured filler strip B. The contoured filler strip occupies the loop openings and includes contoured edges 56 which penetrate and occupy a substantial portion of the crevice spaces. A fabric having a low permeability is thus provided. An enlarged heat radiating surface 52 facing the paper side 39 of the fabric increases the heat transfer occurring in the paper web W to expedite drying. Crevice space 40 and tapered edges 56 of the filler element provide a guiding function which facilitates filler insertion in the loop openings.

An endless dryer fabric having a paper fiber support surface and a machine contact surface arranged about drying drums within a drying machine. The support surface is adopted to allow air to pass there through while carrying paper forming fibers through the drying machine during drying. The fabric consists of a plurality of elliptically shaped coil monofilaments arranged side by side in intermeshing relationship with elongated pintles extending through the intermeshed portions of the coils forming the fabric continuous. An elongated stuffer filament having a cross-section selected from a rhomboid parallelogram, a rhombus parallelogram and a pointed ellipse is positioned to extend diagonally through central portions of each of said coils leaving diagonally opposed equal sized open areas within each coil. The stuffer filaments have opposed shaped edges which engage across the entire width of adjacent coil forming filaments forming secure closures against air passages along upper and lower opposed ends of the central portions. The stuffer filaments are positioned within each coil with its machine direction edge engaging below a connecting pintle and its trailing edge engaging above a connecting pintle.

A papermaking fabric for use with papermaker machines having a system of shaped monofilament machine direction, yarns hereinafter MD yarns, which are woven in stacked, vertical alignment throughout the body of the fabric. Preferably, each upper MD yarn defines floats on the upper surface of the fabric and is vertically stacked with respect to the lower MD yarns. The upper and lower MD yarns may be of the same type and size or they may differ in size, shape, and composition.

A thin dual layer papermaking fabric having an upper layer of weft yarns and a lower layer of weft yarns weaving with a single layer of warp yarns. The upper weft yarns and warp yarns form a paper fiber support surface while the lower weft yarns and the warp yarns form a machine contact surface. The support surface is comprised of a plurality of equal length weft yarn floats arranged in a zig-zag pattern along the length of the fabric and no warp yarn floats. This construction provides a smooth substantially monoplane support surface.
