    摘要: A powder compacting apparatus comprising a punch and die assembly having a die plate provided with at least a pair of rows of die cavities and with a reciprocable punch disposed in each die cavity. A work station positioner angularly movable across the upper surface of the die plate carries a station positioner block in which are formed a powder dispenser for each die cavity, an anvil surface for each row of die cavities and a pickup head for each die cavity. The powder dispensers and the pickup heads are disposed in rows corresponding to the rows of die cavities such that each row of powder dispensers, each anvil surface and each row of pickup heads are sequentially positioned, in timed relationship with the reciprocation of the punches, over each row of die cavities for filling the die cavities with powder material by means of the powder dispensers in a first angular position of the station positioner, compacting the powder material in each die cavity between the punch ends and the anvil surface in a second position of the station positioner and ejecting the compacted articles from the die cavities into the pickup heads in a third angular position of the station positioner.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for adding an additive material, such as a fluid (gas or liquid) to a granular base material which is to be compacted, providing for maximum saturation of the granular base material with the fluid by injecting the fluid into the granular base material in metered proportions prior to or during the compacting operation. The method may be advantageously carried out in an apparatus such as a compacting press having a die provided with at least one die cavity into which a lower compacting member extends for movement upwardly through the die cavity. The die cavity is filled with a granular base material from a filling head positioned above the die cavity. The filling head is part of a positioner assembly pivotally supported over the die cavity and which comprises, in addition to the filling head, an anvil or upper compacting member adapted to be placed over the filled die cavity for compression of the granular material between the anvil or upper compacting member and the lower compacting member. The fluid, under controlled pressure and in a predetermined amount, is injected into the granular base material immediately prior to or during advancement of the lower compacting member within the die cavity for compression of the granular material into a fluid-saturated compacted article, and thereafter the fluid-saturated compacted article is ejected from the die cavity for disposal into a suitable receptacle.

    摘要: A die and punch assembly for use on a powder compacting press for making articles compacted from a powder and means for lubricating the die and punch assembly. The assembly comprises a die plate appropriately mounted to the press and includes an aperture in which a die bushing is mounted, the die bushing having a cavity with a punch slidably and snuggly disposed therein. The punch is actuated by a punch support which is, in turn, carried by a pair of posts extending below the die plate to permit reciprocal movement of the punch within the die cavity. A core rod has one end disposed within a longitudinal bore formed in the punch, while the other end of the core rod is fixedly mounted to the posts below the punch support. A cup-shaped tubular housing carried by the posts encloses the punch support, the core rod support, the punch, the core rod, and the posts with the open end of the tubular housing in a fluid sealing abutment with the lower side of the die plate. An actuating arm extending through the core rod support and the bottom of the tubular housing operatively connects the punch support to an external drive means to selectively cause reciprocation of the punch support. A fluid lubricant reservoir having a predetermined fluid level is connected to the interior of the tubular housing for lubricating the walls of the die cavity during the compacting operation.
