摘要： An aquarium cleaning system comprises undergravel cleaning apparatus and a fish tank having a bottom wall and side and end walls. The cleaning apparatus in the example illustrated comprises a rectangular frame having side and end walls sized to fit within the bottom portion of the tank. An apertured gravel-supporting floor plate is mounted on the top of the frame and defines a space within the frame beneath the plate. A stationary guide tube extends upwardly from the frame above the floor plate. A movable suction head is located within the space and is connected to a movable siphon tube extending upwardly through the guide tube. An upstanding aeration tube is mounted on the floor plate and has a coaxial air supply tube which supports an apertured wiper disc and an apertured filter cartridge, both having wiper elements engaged with the inside wall of the aeration tube to remove algae and detritus. The floor plate comprises two grid sections with parallel slits. The lower section is movable to vary the degree of registration of the slits between fully opened and fully closed modes for special purposes which are described. This invention is disclosed by way of illustration and not by way of limitation for use with an indoor aquarium or tank. It may be applied equally to outdoor aquariums, tanks and ponds without limitation as to size.

摘要： Fish breeding raceways and other water channels of uniform cross-section are cleaned by a moving dam having a water passageway along the bottom to cause flushing of loose dirt as water accumulated behind the dam rushes through the passageway, and the water head behind the dam also provides force to move the dam longitudinally through the raceway. A support mechanism prevents the dam from tipping forward under the force of the water head, and this mechanism may be one or more arms extending forwardly of the dam and in contact with the raceway bottom wall. A bottom cleaning member such as a brush, sponge, or wiper is connected to the dam in advance of the water passageway, such as at the forward end of the support mechanism, for loosening removable material. Flexible seals at the sides and bottom of the dam limit excessive loss of water head due to irregularities in the channel cross-section, and the bottom seal may define a downwardly angled water passageway on the upstream side of the passageway under the dam for further improved flushing action.

摘要： A device for separating into two or more components an aggregate of various species of particles immersed in and settled at the bottom of a body of fluid, one application being the removal of biological debris settled on and within the gravel bed of an aquarium, without, however, removing the gravel.The device, which is used in combination with an auxiliary pumping and filtering means, employs a separator chamber having a mouth kept close to or in contact with said aggregate, and accomplishes its purpose by a flow induced through said chamber via inlet and outlet ports therein, with no flow or only a minor flow in through the mouth, while dirt and debris are induced into the chamber by a turbulent action provided for therewithin, such that the dirt and debris are entrained and swept away by the flow, but not the denser gravel.

摘要： An aquarium cleaning apparatus is described that preferably incorporates a number of features including: (1) a swivel head connected to the siphon hose which rotates as the apparatus is maneuvered around an aquarium; (2) extension tubes to lengthen the cleaning tube assembly so that the apparatus can be used, for example, in aquariums having a greater height; (3) a self-starting feature that has a novel two-piece check ball assembly which permits "self-starting" of the siphon action; (4) an angled spout on the swivel head which connects to the siphon hose to facilitate self-starting; (5) an angled corner on the cleaning tube assembly which permits the apparatus to access and effectively clean the gravel adjacent to the walls and corners of the aquarium; (6) an aesthetically attractive contoured gripping tube; (7) a screen which prevents aquarium gravel from jamming the check valve assembly; and (8) a scraper assembly and scrubber assembly which may be attached to the apparatus for removing deposits to accumulate upon the interior surface of an aquarium.
