A door can be selectively moveable to a closed position to close the access opening and can have a metal inner panel with a rear face confronting the treating chamber when the door is in the closed position. The door can have a lower edge overlying a portion of the tub when the door is in the closed position. A ventilating strip can be provided along the lower edge and can have vent openings passing through the strip. A seal can extend between the tub and the ventilating strip when the door is closed to form a liquid seal between the ventilating strip and the tub.

At least one ultrasonic transducer is located for detecting wares feeding into the chamber and/or for detecting wares within the chamber. A controller is associated with the ultrasonic transducer and configured to identify one or more of ware location, ware movement, ware size, ware shape and/or ware material based upon outputs from the at least one ultrasonic transducer. The controller is further configured to control at least one operating parameter of the machine based at least in part upon identified ware location, identified ware movement, identified ware size, identified ware shape and/or identified ware material.

Through this, a small amount of dishes may be washed and dried in a short time and the dishes may be washed using a small amount of water and energy.

A vibration sensor, such as a microphone and/or an accelerometer, may be associated with the vent fan motor and may be configured to sense sound pressure level vibrations emitted by the vent fan motor. A controller associated with the dishwasher may receive the sensed vibration signals, identify various operating characteristics of the vent fan motor, and may compare the identified operating characteristics against preferred operating characteristics. A determination that the operating characteristics do not satisfy the preferred operating characteristics may correspond to inefficient operation of the vent fan motor, and the controller may thus adjust the vent fan motor speed.
