    摘要: A water heater construction and method includes arranging the inner water tank and the surrounding outer shell in an inverted orientation and positioning the outer shell into a cover which is arranged with clearance openings for the plumbing connections extending from the top of the tank to extend therethrough. With the tank, shell and cover in an inverted and assembled condition, the annular clearance space defined between the tank and shell is filled, at least the majority, with liquid, foam-in-place insulation. By inverting the water heater and injecting liquid foam insulation material, the clearance space above the inner water tank is foamed first thereby assuring that the foam material at this location will have greater uniformity in foam density and cell structure than at the lower portion of the annular space so as to provide enhanced thermal efficiency at the most critical location.

    摘要: A water heater for containing water surrounded in spaced apart relationship by an outer shell includes a sleeve of insulation material, such as fiberglass, located in the annular space between the inner tank and outer sleeve. The top edge of the insulation sleeve includes an annular cuff which is of a radial thickness greater than the radial thickness of the rest of the insulation sleeve such that the cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and excterior wall surface of the inner tank. An expanded foam thermal insulation material fills the annular space above the cuff of the insulation mat. A method of making a water heater includes the steps of locating a sleeve of insulation material around the exterior wall surface of the inner tank, folding the top end of the insulation sleeve back over itself to form an annular cuff, and positioning the outer shell concentrically over the inner tank whereupon the annular cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and exterior wall surface of the inner tank. The annular space above the annular cuff of the sleeve is then filled with an expandable foam insulation material which is allowed to foam in situ.

    摘要: An appliance, such as a refrigerator or water heater construction, typically includes a first wall in surrounding spaced apart relationship to a second wall. An insulating and sealing device of insulation material, such as fiberglass or foamed material partially enclosed in an open-topped envelope of plastic or foil material is circumferentially located in the space between the first wall and outer wall at a preselected location within the space. The insulating and sealing device which is of a radial thickness greater than the radial width of the space is radially compressed between the first wall surface and second wall surface. An expanded foam thermal insulation material fills the space to one side of the insulating and sealing device. A method of making the appliance having two spaced apart walls includes the steps of positioning an insulating and sealing device of resilient, flexible insulation material on and in contact with one of the walls, the insulating and sealing device having a radial thickness greater than the radial width of the space, and positioning the two walls into transverse spaced apart relationship radially compressing the collar between the two walls. In another embodiment, the method of making the appliance includes the steps of positioning the two walls in transverse spaced apart relationship, and positioning an insulating and sealing device of resilient, flexible insulation material within the space in contact with the facing surfaces of the two walls, the insulating and sealing device having a radial thickness greater than the width of the space.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for providing foam resin insulation for a vessel, such as a water heater. The water heater includes a tank to contain water to be heated and has a plurality of openings to receive components of the water heater. A jacket is spaced outwardly of the tank to provide a space therebetween to receive foam resin insulation. Prior to introducing the resin into the space, an elongated member, such as a rod, is engaged with the opening in the tank and the rod extends outwardly through an aligned opening in the jacket. A resilient pad, which is movable on the rod, is compressed against the outer surface of the jacket to seal the space between the jacket opening and the rod. A liquid foamable resin is introduced in the space between the tank and the jacket and expands to fill the space and provide an insulating layer.

    摘要: A water heater and method of assembling the water heater are disclosed. The method includes the step of positioning an insulation member around a water tank. An expandable tube is positioned at an elevation between a top surface and a bottom surface of the insulation member. An outer shell is positioned over the water tank, the insulation member, and the expandable tube to at least partially encapsulate the water tank. The expandable tube is expanded to compress at least a portion of the insulation member against the water tank or the outer shell. Foam insulation is delivered into a space defined adjacent the top surface of the insulation member and between the water tank and the outer shell. The foam insulation is substantially limited from traveling past the expandable tube when the expandable tube is maintained in an expanded state.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing a double walled vessel is herein disclosed. The method involves the steps of forming an outer vessel having at least one reassembly channel formed therearound and forming an inner vessel having at least one element fitting formed integral thereto. At least one control housing is secured to the outer surface of the inner shell in registration with the element fitting. Heating elements and other control apparatus are installed in the element fittings within the control boxes. The outer vessel is sectioned at the reassembly channel, thereby allowing the inner vessel to be inserted into the outer vessel. The outer vessel is reassembled to enclose the inner vessel therein and a curable foam material is injected into the space between the inner and outer vessels to maintain a constant spatial relationship therebetween and to ensure the structural integrity of the outer vessel. Finally, a portion of the wall of the outer vessel corresponding to an open face of the control housing is removed to permit access to the interior of the control housing through the wall of the outer vessel.

A method of making the water heater construction includes the steps of positioning the collar of insulation material around and in contact with the interior wall surface of the outer shell and moving the outer shell downwardly concentrically over the inner tank displacing the inner perimeter margin of the collar at the interface of the collar and the water tank in a generally upward direction to form a trough in the collar at the top side of the collar.
