    摘要: A water heater for containing water surrounded in spaced apart relationship by an outer shell includes a sleeve of insulation material, such as fiberglass, located in the annular space between the inner tank and outer sleeve. The top edge of the insulation sleeve includes an annular cuff which is of a radial thickness greater than the radial thickness of the rest of the insulation sleeve such that the cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and excterior wall surface of the inner tank. An expanded foam thermal insulation material fills the annular space above the cuff of the insulation mat. A method of making a water heater includes the steps of locating a sleeve of insulation material around the exterior wall surface of the inner tank, folding the top end of the insulation sleeve back over itself to form an annular cuff, and positioning the outer shell concentrically over the inner tank whereupon the annular cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and exterior wall surface of the inner tank. The annular space above the annular cuff of the sleeve is then filled with an expandable foam insulation material which is allowed to foam in situ.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing hemispherical tank heads is disclosed in which a pair of planar lune members having a generally football shape are cut from flat metal stock. The members are each then formed into a three dimensional lune section having a generally orange-peel sectional shape. Each section is placed onto a trim jig and a first edge of the sections are trimmed to leave some excess material beyond a desired trim line. A second edge of each section is then trimmed to a desired trim line. The two trimmed sections are placed on a joining jig with the second edges of the sections juxtaposed and joined to form a hemispherical member. Finally, the hemispherical member is placed onto the trim jig and the excess materials on the first edges is trimmed to form an accurate hemispherical tank head. Preferably, the trim jig is rotated relative to a stationary plasma torch during all trimming operations.

A method of making the water heater construction includes the steps of locating a sleeve of insulation material around the exterior wall surface of the inner tank extending from proximate the bottom end of the inner tank and extending upwardly longitudinally thereof a predetermined distance less than the full length of the inner tank, folding the top end of the insulation sleeve back over itself to form an annular cuff at the top end of the sleeve, and positioning the outer shell concentrically over the inner tank whereupon the annular cuff is compressed between the interior wall surface of the outer shell and exterior wall surface of the inner tank. The annular space above the annular cuff of the sleeve is then filled with an expandable foam insulation material which is allowed to foam in situ.

    摘要: A method for hand forming cooking utensils, a portion of the formed utensil being disposable.A wire frame is bent to define the shape, in plan view, of the desired cooking utensil. To form a two-dimensional cooking utensil, a foil means is wrappingly secured to the wire frame. To form a three-dimensional cooking utensil, the wire means is first deformed to conform to the perimetrical configuration of a mold means which is preferably a staple item of commerce such as a mayonnaise jar or a number 10 can. After removing the wire member from its surrounding engagement with the mold member, a foil means is manually made to conform to the shape of the mold means. The wire member is re-positioned about the perimeter of the mold means, spaced downwardly from the upstanding free end of the mold means, assuming such mold means is supported on one of its ends by a support surface, a predetermined distance equal to the depth of the desired cooking utensil. Securing the foil means about the periphery of the wire frame by reversely folding the foil and crimping the same provides the desired utensil when the frame and mold are separated. Handle means are integrally formed with the mold encircling-portion of the wire frame.

    摘要: A method of fabricating a prestressed cast iron vessel wherein double wall cast iron body segments each have an arcuate inner wall and a spaced apart substantially parallel outer wall with a plurality of radially extending webs interconnecting the inner wall and the outer wall, the bottom surface and the two exposed radial side surfaces of each body segment are machined and eight body segments are formed into a ring. The top surfaces and outer surfaces of the outer walls are machined and keyways are provided across the juncture of adjacent end walls of the body segments. A liner segment complementary in shape to a selected inner wall of one of the body segments is mounted to each of the body segments and again formed into a ring. The liner segments of each ring are welded to form unitary liner rings and thereafter the cast iron body segments are prestressed to complete the ring assembly. Ring assemblies are stacked to form the vessel and adjacent unitary liner rings are welded. A top head covers the top ring assembly to close the vessel and axially extending tendons retain the top and bottom heads in place under pressure.
