摘要： A composite container is provided for holding one or more products (e.g., snack foods, toys, etc.) in separate compartments within the same container. The container includes a tubular body defining a first end and a second end, and the tubular body extends radially inward at a predefined location between the first and second ends to form a ledge. A separator, such as a paperboard or plastic disk, can be placed on the ledge, such that the separator defines a first compartment on one side of the separator and a second compartment on the other side of the separator. In this way, a product can be stored in the first compartment, and a product can be stored in the second compartment, and the user can have access to both in the same container. Associated methods of manufacturing a composite container with multiple compartments are also provided.

The container includes a first blank of sheet material for forming side walls of the container, and a second blank of sheet material for forming a bottom wall of the container. The first blank having an interior surface and an opposing exterior surface, a top edge and a bottom edge. The first blank includes a first side panel, a second side panel, a third side panel, a fourth side panel, a fifth side panel, and a sixth side panel wherein each of the side panels are coupled across a fold line. The first blank also includes end flaps extending from the bottom edge of each of the side panels wherein at least two of the end flaps includes a tab joint. The second blank having a plurality of side edges equal to a number of side panels of the first blank, each side edge having a width substantially equal to a width of the side panels of the first blank. The second blank is foldable and is coupled to at least one end flap of the first blank for forming a bottom wall of the container.

Machines which will insert transverse partition strips of corrugated paper material into notches formed in an advancing plurality of longitudinal partition strips of a similar corrugated material, thus assembling a cell-type filler for cartons, are well known in the art. This invention involves the use of a pair of parallel guide rails for feeding two independent sets of transverse strips to the insertion mechanism of such a machine with the two strips being simultaneously placed in the notches of two independent sets of longitudinal strips. This allows the simultaneous assembly of two cell-type fillers on a machine which previously assembled but one such filler at a time.

摘要： A fluid flow sensing control system to sense the presence of notches in a series of longitudinal partition strips and initiate the insertion of a cross strip into the notches in a continuous process to produce a cell-type filler for a carton. A stream of fluid under pressure is directed across a gap in a fluid flow interruption sensing head from a series of emitting orifices to a corresponding series of collecting orifices. One of a plurality of longitudinal partition strips is directed to pass through the gap in the sensing head, thereby disrupting the normal flow from the emitting to the collecting orifices. The passage of a notch in the longitudinal partition is sensed and the signal is processed by a fluid logic system, which in turn causes a transverse partition strip to be inserted by a feeding mechanism into the aligned notches in the longitudinal strips. It should be understood that longitudinal strips are in parallel with the sensed strip so that the transverse strip is inserted in all longitudinal strips at the same time. Also these sets of plural longitudinal strips are introduced in series into the insertion area. Provision is also made to automatically clear the collecting orifices of any buildup of corrugated material debris blown off of the longitudinal strips.

摘要： Apparatus for supplying, controlling, and inserting container inserts which are lightweight and relatively unstable when stacked. Polystyrene inserts are supplied in multiple stacks and are aligned and supported to prevent misalignment during feeding to the containers. A movable wall supports and aligns the stack of inserts as it is moved to a feeding hopper. Individual inserts are removed from the bottom of the stack in the feeding hopper and are passed over an adhesive applicator. The individual insert is then pressed into a waiting container.
