摘要: A method of operating a transfer printer (1), the transfer printer comprising first and second spool supports each being configured to support a spool (3,4) of ribbon (2), a ribbon drive configured to cause movement of ribbon (2) from the first spool support to the second spool support along a predetermined ribbon path, and a printhead (7), the printhead being configured to selectively transfer ink from the ribbon to a substrate as the substrate is moved relative to the printhead in a direction of substrate movement. The method comprises driving the ribbon in a direction parallel to the direction of substrate movement, printing a first plurality of images onto a first respective plurality of substrates, driving the ribbon in a direction opposite to the direction of substrate movement, driving the ribbon in the direction parallel to the direction of substrate movement, and printing a second plurality of images onto a second respective plurality of substrates. Printing each image of the first and second pluralities of images results in corresponding pluralities of first (15 a, b, c) and second (16 a, b, c) negative images being formed on the ribbon, wherein each negative image of the first plurality of negative images (15 a, b, c) is located adjacent a negative image of the second plurality of negative images (16 a, b, c) on the ribbon.

摘要: A tape printing device includes a cartridge loading section where a tape cartridge having a platen roller and a portion to be guided is loaded in an unloadable manner; two recess portions in which fingers for gripping the tape cartridge are inserted; a platen support shaft inserted in the platen roller; and a guide pin inserted in the portion to be guided. The guide pin is situated on a side opposite to the platen support shaft across an imaginary line connecting the two recess portions and is arranged at a site where a distance from the recess portion at a position farther from the first insertion shaft, of the two recess portions, is shorter than a distance from the recess portion at a position closer to the platen support shaft.

摘要: A thermal printer for printing on a continuous print medium by ink transfer from a thermal print ribbon has a print head which is pivotally mounted and which is driven in an oscillatory nodding motion by a stepper motor so as to repeatedly to bring a linear array of energizable printing elements to bear against a platen roller. Both the element array and the platen extend transversely to respective paths of travel of the print medium and the ribbon. The print medium is fed through the printer from an inlet region, between the platen and print head, and thence to an outlet region. The instantaneous rate of travel of the print medium past the print head is substantially the same as the rate of feed of print medium to the printer. Typically this rate is of the order of 250 to 400 mm per second. The ribbon also travels between the print head and the platen, overlying the print medium and is driven in such a manner that it travels at the same rate as the print medium during each printing operation. This is achieved by driving the ribbon with a motor the speed of which is controlled according to the sensed speed of travel of the print medium, for example, by coupling the motor to processing circuitry which takes an input signal from a shaft encoder associated with the platen roller. Alternatively, the ribbon may be driven by frictional contact with the print medium. These methods of driving the ribbon have the advantage that the ribbon speed can be varied to take account of different print medium speeds, for example, due to the requirements of differing packaging processes, and also in response to transient variations in print medium speed during each printing operation.

摘要: In a thermal transfer color printer, three principal portions composed of a sheet feed portion for sending out printing sheets one by one, a printing portion for printing the sheet with thermal transfer color inks, and a sheet discharge portion having a sheet discharge tray for receiving the printed sheet are arranged in a Y-shape around a branch portion. Thus, the passage for feeding the printing sheet and the overall size of the printer are reduced, whereby multicolored prints of good quality can be obtained without misregistration of coloring.

摘要: A color thermal printer loads a dye receiver for printing by moving the dye receiver in a first direction through a gap between a print head and a platen. A dye donor, also positioned in the gap, moves in the first direction during receiver loading. The moving dye donor engages the dye receiver, assisting the dye receiver through the gap. When the dye receiver is detected downstream of the gap, the dye receiver is positioned in a beginning receiver print position and the position of the dye donor with respect to the print head is determined. If the print head position is downstream of a beginning donor print position, the dye donor is rewound in a second direction opposite the first direction until the print head is upstream of the beginning donor print position, whereupon the dye donor is moved to the beginning donor print position. If the print head position is upstream of the beginning donor print position when the dye receiver is detected, the dye donor is moved to the beginning donor print position. A normal printing sequence occurs when both dye donor and dye receiver are in their respective beginning print positions.
