摘要: Selectively printing full and fractional sized images with a donor ribbon. A first print order and indicia are printed while the donor ribbon is advanced through the printer. Printing is performed using donor material on a first fraction of the patch set when the print order requests a fractional sized image, or on a full patch when the print order requests a full sized image. When a second print order requests a fractional sized image, a determination is made whether the second fraction of the patch set is available for printing. An image based upon the second print order is printed using donor material from the second fraction of the patch set when it is available, or the donor ribbon is advanced to the next patch set when it is determined that the second fraction of the patch set is not available.

摘要: In apparatus for thermally transferring ink from a ribbon, having backing and ink donor layers, to a letter, wherein the apparatus includes a frame, a thermal printhead and a printhead backing roller, there is provided an improvement for urging a ribbon and letter into engagement with one another. The improvement includes the printhead backing roller connected to the frame for rotation in engagement with a letter fed between the roller and a ribbon, and the printhead backing roller including a body portion adapted to flex when engaging a letter for urging a letter into contact with the ink donor layer of a ribbon. Moreover, it is of the invention that the roller body portion include at least one channel formed therein.

摘要: A platen protecting thermal printing system effects borderless printing on an image receiver by thermal transfer of image imparting substance such as diffusible or sublimable dye from a donor web at a printing nip between coextensive portions of a thermal head and cooperating platen defining a nip width. The web is disposed between the head and receiver, and a platen protecting extension member is disposed between the receiver and platen, for common travel of the web, receiver and member through the nip during printing. The web width exceeds the receiver width and exceeds, equals or is exceeded by the nip width. The member width exceeds the nip width when the web width exceeds or equals the nip width, and exceeds the web width when the nip width exceeds the web width. The member is overprinted on its lateral portions extending beyond the receiver side edges within the range of the web width and/or nip width, while preventing overprinting on the platen.

摘要: The present invention relates to an improved system for processing continuous multi-carboned paper stock material in which a plastic overlay material is used to prevent unwanted printings on a face of the material being printed. The overlay material comprises an endless loop of material having sprocket holes along two edges and a plurality of print impression holes. The print impression holes are spaced apart by a distance substantially equal to the pitch of the stock material. The overlay material is advanced together with the stock material during printing.
