摘要： A printing apparatus comprises a platen, a dot impact print head (23) opposite to the platen, a mask plate (40) between the platen and the print head with a paper passage between the platen and the mask plate (40), and an ink ribbon (31) between the print head and the mask plate. Transport mechanisms are provided to move the mask plate (40) in a direction substantially perpendicular to said paper passage between a first position on the print head side and a second position on the platen side, the transport mechanisms being responsive to the position of the print head along the platen. In the first position of the mask plate a relatively wide gap between the platen and the mask plate enables easy paper insertion, while in the second position a relatively wide gap between the mask plate and the print head facilitates replacement of the ink ribbon without problems.

摘要： A ribbon mask for use with a impact dot matrix printer is provided. The ribbon mask comprises a head confronting surface and a pair of opposed side plates each positioned on an opposite side of the head confronting surface. An obtuse angle is formed between said head confronting surface each of the opposed side plates. A pair of fitting tabs are also provided. Each fitting tab is positioned on one of the pair of opposed side plates. An acute angle is formed between each of the fitting tabs and a plane parallel to a plane in which the head confronting surface lies. As a result of this construction, when the ribbon mask comes in contact with a sheet of a recording medium, the ribbon mask is deformed so that a portion of the head confronting surface comes into contact with an end of a recording head, which in turn prevents the ribbon mask from interfering with the sheet of the recording medium.

摘要： A print wheel impact printer in a document encoder comprises a flexible shield (38) made from laminar polyester sheet, the shield (38) having a shielding portion (40) at either end of which is provided a folded portion (44), each folded portion (44) being operative by virtue of non-90 degree fold lines and by virtue of the folds (50,52) forming at least three sides of a polyhedron to support the flexible shielding section distant from the print wheel (14). In operation the flexible shielding portion (40) is moved and carried by the paper (30), driven by the hammer (26), against the ink ribbon (12) and print wheel (14) with the paper (30) protruding through an aperture (42) in the shielding portion (40). Extraneous marking or blemishes created on the paper by contact with the ribbon (12) are thereby avoided.

摘要： An ink ribbon cassette has a box-shaped ribbon container for housing an endless ink ribbon and a ribbon protector positioned between a sheet of print paper and the ink ribbon exposed between ribbon guide arms. The ribbon protector is elongate in shape and has a pair of holes defined in the opposite ends thereof and a central hole. The ribbon protector is mounted in position by fitting the end holes thereof over projections on the ribbon guide arms. The ink ribbon cassette also has a pair of holders for preventing the mounted ribbon protector from being detached from the ribbon guide arms. During a printing operation, the ink ribbon is pressed against the sheet by a print head through the central hole in the ribbon protector.

摘要： A ribbon cartridge construction and method of assembling same includes providing a housing with a ribbon access window at the outer perimeter thereof between ribbon inlet and outlet apertures for exposing a run of ribbon for use in printing on an oppositely facing surface and shielding all but a predetermined portion of the exposed ribbon from an oppositely facing surface. The shielding comprises providing a resiliently flexible planar shield including a shielding portion configured to cover the exposed ribbon and having a printing aperture corresponding in size to said predetermined portion of the exposed ribbon and two elongated mounting arms extending outwardly from the shielding portion in opposite directions. One arm is slid longitudinally into one ribbon aperture until fully inserted and is thereby automatically locked in to prevent removal and the other arm is slid longitudinally into the other ribbon aperture to put the shield in its operative position wherein the printing aperture is aligned with the predetermined portion of the ribbon.
